The above ground pool thread

Hi Guys

So i bought this pool at Makro

I need to buy a filter pump for it, but undecided which is suffice for the size and water capacity. Something not too cheap and not too expensive. Anyone can recommend in the price range of R500 to R2000 ramge. Simple and easy to maintain. Also do i need fitting adaptors from the pool side to the filter pump.

My grass looks like shadow_man's backyard. Will there be issues if i just use it as is.

Re PUMP:

If you're in CPT then you can buy the pump (cartridge) that came with my 4.57m x 1.07m Bestway Steel Pro Max, if you like.

Unused (still in box) as I haven't setup yet - and bought the Intex Krystal Sand Pump Filter model instead.

As for connectors - I doubt you need any fittings as the pump is for this specific brand (if you do then you can grab them from Takealot / Loot / Sportsman's).

Re GRASS:

You'll need to cut the grass (sod) out --> tamp the soil down --> add weed guard --> add some sand --> tamp that down --> confirm level --> place tarp --> pool.

If you just place on top of grass you run the risk of:
a) not being properly level, then the pool will lean and collapse
b) if it doesn't have a proper base, then any sharp object like stones will cut through your pool liner and end your pool time...

It's work and I was having paving done at the same time - so I'm getting the pavers to do it for me --> add artificial grass on top.

@shadow_man you might need to get an additional pipe for that Intex pump for the waste water depending on where you position the pump. Would also recommend elevating it where possible. I just have mine on a few pavers but it really makes all the difference in the world if the water decided to run that way

Thanks - I’ll unpack on Thursday or Friday and see. Luckily takealot is fairly close and they’ve got stock in CPT if needed!

As for raising the pump - I’ll have a ton of pavers left over so that should be easy to do

Some updated pics - yard is a mess in progress.

Lots of nice big Brazilian Pepper roots removed!

I bought and collected this from takealot today. (along with the 38mm Bestway adapters).

I opted for it over the Kreepy Krauly combo (as the reviews were horrible), its got a 2 year warranty vs the KK one year and it should be much less hassle fitting wise. (the bonus for me is i also could pay in eBucks)

Will setup pool next week once paving company have come and gone.

They’re going to cut out a 6m diameter circle for me, fill with rock dust and tamp to level. From there I’ll add some artificial grass and seat the pool.

I hope I don’t need any extra adapters or fittings - but I’ll only know once I’ve unboxed and tried to setup.

Pool is a Bestway Steel Max Pro - 4.57m x 1.07m.

What did you pay for that specific pool and where?

Sorry, I don't get it. Why do you need to elevate the pump? And by how much?
I also have some spare slabs I could use, but the wife won't be happy with the look. Better have a good reason.

i assume so that its level with the inlets. Probably Pumps better if its a bit elevated, instead of below, where the pressure isnt as great. But im guessing here

I wouldn't say its always needed, in my case its fairly close to the pool so I figured if water spilled out at any point, I wouldn't want any parts of the pump that's not supposed to get wet, get wet. However @Icemanbrfc does have a fairly good point on elevation for the longevity of the pump by not working as hard, but that wasn't my reason lol

Saw a video of a dude who has an above ground pool, who actually extended the pipes, and ran the pump under some enclosure farther away from the pool.

I was going to modify a dog kennel for the pipes etc but since Im moving next year, I thought its not worth the trouble

What are you planning to put under your pool?
I'm putting mine on paving (I know, not ideal. Def taking it down after summer tho)
and I'd like something to even out the bottom and maybe soften it a bit when we're in the pool.
Previous posters have mentioned everything from "vinyl things" to "old converyor belts" to "rubber liners". Not having much luck finding any of those so far.

Buy a big trampoline, put pool on top of it, and enjoy
