The point was that the state labs took up to 12 months to produce results - that's what you seemed to ignore. And it was by no means certain that the Police would accept the offer from the private lab.

But that was some years ago, it appears that the waiting time is now much longer (see above, up to 5 years in the Western Cape).

BTW, I am aware that some of the Police labs have/had great facilities, but they just don't have enough suitably qualified staff.

Now just what does the above mean in view of the fact that the Cape Times reported in March 2010 that the Western Cape had a five year backlog ???

Does it mean that the backlog was six years on 1 April 2009 ???

So, I repeat my statement that I do not believe that the Police have the CSI capabilities to properly investigate this crime.

There was four of them, Vusumzi Samuel Ntamo, Ntobeko Ambrose Peni, Easy Mzikhona Nofemela & Mongezi Christopher Manqina.

Two of the savages are back in prison. Mongezi Manqina for rape and aggravated assault which he committed not long after their pardons. Dunno what the other dude did.

From people I know in the force, they all agree that there is a major backlog in the states labs. I wouldn't go so far as to say the people can't do it, it's just that they don't have enough avalable resources to do it.

They need to find every blood molecule, every streak of sweat, every hair, every fibre, every other organic material present in that vehicle, or on the body, ballistic tests, etc, etc, etc, without contamination anything (like in the Brett Kebble case). And they need to present everything properly (unlike the JZ case and the Ingrid Lotz case)

Can they do it ? We will see ...

But their record is not great - many of the best cops have emigrated or have retired.

As we saw in the OJ Simpson case, the Police just cannot afford to mess up the slightest bit of evidence, otherwise the lawyers will nail them.

By the way, the murdered Stellenbosch student was Inge Lotz. Not Ingrid.
