NPA TO HOLD DEWANI BRIEFING
The National Prosecuting Authority is expected to brief the media on the expected arrival of honeymoon murder accused Shrien Dewani on Monday.
Dewani is expected in the country on April 8 to face charges related to the murder of his wife Anni.
On March 24 the justice department spokesman Mthunzi Mhaga said Dewani was expected to leave London on Monday and land in South Africa the following day.
He would then appear in the High Court in Cape Town in connection with the murder of his wife Anni in 2010.
Dewani claims he and Anni were kidnapped at gun point as they drove through Gugulethu in Cape Town in a taxi in November 2010.
Dewani was released unharmed. The next day his wife's body was found in the abandoned car. She had been shot dead.
The couple were on honeymoon at the time.
Xolile Mngeni was convicted of the murder and jailed for life. Prosecutors allege Dewani hired him to kill his wife.
Taxi driver Zola Tongo was jailed for 18 years after he admitted his part in the killing. Another accomplice, Mziwamadoda Qwabe, pleaded guilty to murder and received a 25-year prison sentence.
Dewani, who is being detained in hospital in Britain under the Mental Health Act, has denied any part in the murder.
Mhaga said the NPA was confident that Dewani would receive a fair trial in South Africa's courts.
"He will be kept at a medical facility due to his peculiar medical condition."

i saw the interview on tv news.
He is landing tomorrow, will be taken to court & formally charged, then will appear again on wednesday.
But where, if not at a police station, will he be kept overnight - there has been no bail application, so in terms of the law, he has be be kept in custody in a police station or prison until such time as he is granted bail (and provided special accommodation in his own private & reserved section of valkenburg hosp) ?

Details about the possible trial of honeymoon murder-accused Shrien Dewani will be revealed at a later date, a justice department official said on Monday.
Justice department spokesman Mthunzi Mhaga was bombarded with questions at a technical briefing attended by around 60 local and foreign journalists at the Western Cape High Court.
Dewani is set to make his first appearance in the court on Tuesday morning, when it is expected he will be charged.
Journalists asked who the presiding judge and prosecution team would be should Dewani be found fit to stand trial.
When they did not get answers, they asked whether Dewani would apply for bail, how long his appearance would take and which medical facility he would be taken to afterwards.
"Tomorrow's court proceedings will be uncapped tomorrow. I cannot delve into what is likely to transpire," Mhaga replied.
It was revealed that Dewani would appear before Judge President John Hlophe at 11.30am on Tuesday, after being brought up the stairs from the court's holding cells.
He would be charged with conspiracy to commit murder and defeating the ends of justice.
Dewani's flight would take off from England on Monday night and would land in Cape Town on Tuesday morning.
The department declined to reveal which exit he would use to leave the Cape Town International Airport or his expected landing time, citing security concerns.
"In view of his peculiar medical condition, he will be accompanied by a medical doctor, a nurse and members of the SA Police Service." Mhaga said.
"This is informed by the fact that he is currently a patient and a suspect who is in police custody and may need medical assistance en-route to the country."
Mhaga reminded the media that Dewani had the right to be presumed innocent until proven guilty.
"It is for this reason that there will be no provision for him to be photographed prior to his court appearance," Mhaga said.
"Media will have an opportunity to film him in court, but as soon as the judge walks in, all cameras should be off and removed from the courtroom."
He said the media could apply to the court to film his next appearance.

COURT WILL DECIDE ON DEWANI'S HEALTH
The Western Cape High Court will have the final say on whether honeymoon murder-accused Shrien Dewani is fit to stand trial, a justice department official said on Monday.
"The court obviously decides that after hearing counsel on the matter as usually happens in court," provincial justice head Hishaam Mohamed told journalists in a technical briefing at the court.
Dewani, 33, is due to make his first appearance in a South African court on Tuesday morning following extended extradition proceedings.
He claims he and Anni were kidnapped at gunpoint as they drove through Gugulethu in Cape Town in a taxi in November 2010.
Dewani was released unharmed. The next day his wife's body was found in the abandoned car. She had been shot dead. The couple were on honeymoon at the time.
Three alleged accomplices are already serving jail terms in connection with the crimes.
Dewani has denied any part in the murder and has been fighting removal from the United Kingdom until he has recovered from mental health problems, including severe depression and post-traumatic stress disorder.
Justice department spokesman Mthunzi Mhaga said at the briefing Dewani would be kept at a medical facility in Cape Town but declined to give further details.
According to media reports, Dewani might be kept at Valkenberg Hospital for psychiatric evaluation.
Mhaga remained mum on who the presiding judge, prosecutors and defence team would be should Dewani go on trial.
In 2012, deputy director of prosecutions Adrian Mopp was the prosecutor in the trial of convicted gunman Xolile Mngeni.
Before the technical briefing on Monday, Mopp was seen entering and leaving the court with Francois van Zyl SC and attorney Taswell Papier.
Van Zyl has been involved in prominent trials before and defended Schabir Shaik in his fraud and corruption trial in Durban.
