The Bafana Bafana Thread

Man, we could've won that in regular time and again in extra time.

Nevertheless, great effort. From where this team has been for the better part of 20-years, this was a huge improvement. Defensively they look good, but the lack of goals is the main concern and is also something that is seen in the PSL, where our clubs are incredibly low scoring.

The boys really made us proud. I was one of those who watched the SA vs Morocco game without much expectations and the boys got the win, the I started believing. Against Cape Verde, I was very nervous as I saw that CV was playing to win it. Then yesterday I was truly pleased to see them wanting to win so badly. May this be the foundation upon which a stronger Bafana team will be established. I know it is still very early but now, I am a believer.

But first I need to get the Bokke jersey before Bafana's.

No one wanted to win Bronze today, DRC did try a bit more than Bafana did. But we won on Penalties

True.
I do, however, feel we were tired from the last game, that took a lot of our energy and it shows today. As disappointed as I still am over losing a game we should have won against Nigeria, well done, Bafana Bafana.

Not the best match, but it's the result that counts. History books will show that it's our best result in 24 years. I just hope that we can build from here.

Third place, that adds nicely to our story, but we have to do serious introspection or our strike force, I can safely say we were the bluntest team at that tournament, only saved by our organised defence and goalkeeper.

I still think Broos sometimes let's his stubbornness gets in the way, as evidence by him ignoring some very good players without any valid reasons, hope he is not too old to learn from his mistakes.

Personally I think Du Preez should be called up, he is the perfect alternative to Percy Tau, his pace would be very useful, specifically with VAR, we could get plenty penalties. Hopefully Foster is available in future and we can build a much more potent side.

No one ever wants to win or play the bronze game. Its pointless game added for TV money.

The euros have scrapped it. Wish more organisations would follow.

That problem appears to run deep, as our domestic clubs do not score a lot of goals and that has been a trend for as long as I can remember. We haven't been able to produce the strikers we did at our peak in the 90s and early 00s (Bartlett, McCarthy, Masinga, etc).

In all of that the shock will be when the top goalscorers are not even selected for the squad, that is where Broos' stubbornness gets me.

If we had a Shalulile type striker then Bafana would be among the top nations in Africa. We just need to score goals.

A good / solid Bafana needs a more competitive league, the disparity between Sundowns and everyone else is hurting Bafana in the long run

My problem is still the fact that we don't have a cap on signings, Sundowns can sign all the promising players, keep them on the bench so that no one can have them, because they are not playing they lose the opportunity to be selected for the national team.

A lot of promising careers have perished on the Sundowns bench. There is very little for competition if this anti competitive behavior is allowed to happen.

Also doesn't help that the head of sundowns is also the President of CAF

They send a fair share on loan tbh.
