The Bafana Bafana Thread

They send a fair share on loan tbh.
And they choose which teams they loan them to, right? Usually some Chippa or some other team that's about to be relegated, that poses very little threat to them.

It's honestly very bad for our football, and before someone says Chiefs used to do it, no they have never, they have always had a small squad.

I don't have any beef with Sundowns' moneythey can use it to outbid everyone for any player they want, we just need to put a cap on the signings the way we do with foreigners. In this way there is a bigger pool of talent for all the teams to choose from, and the players themselves have better chances of playing regularly and Broos has a bigger pool to select from, win win for everyone.

Stan Matthews, the SuperSport guy spoke about this recently. He just said it is a fact of life and they have to contend with being the fourth best team in SA. They are quite happy to do that as it keeps them stable. He conceded they can't match the might of Sundowns.

Also doesn't help that the head of sundowns is also the President of CAF
I do believe he is a good guy with good intentions though, we are certainly benefitting as a continent by having him there. Personally I am very glad I don't have to look at Hayatou's sleepy face.

True… can’t help but think there is a conflict of interest there.

My problem is still the fact that we don't have a cap on signings, Sundowns can sign all the promising players, keep them on the bench so that no one can have them, because they are not playing they lose the opportunity to be selected for the national team.

A lot of promising careers have perished on the Sundowns bench. There is very little for competition if this anti competitive behavior is allowed to happen.
Thats up to the players themselves. No real star would sign up to just be a bench warmer. It isn't anti competitive and we as a country can produce more than 20 top talented players. The other clubs need to sort out their development structures then.

Not just the Clubs, Soccer South Africa, is responsable gor this, not just Afcon every few years, then sit on their big fat rear ends, the rest of the time.

Lots of people at OR Thambo this morning, dind't realize 3rd place in Afcon was such an achievement either way hope we can deliver at our next few international tournamnets.
What a snarky comment, finishing in the semis for a team that has been struggling for so long is an achievement, in whatever tournament including the Afcon.

Well done to those who went to welcome them, I heard they arrived at 4am.

I don't know if this this is sarcasm, but even someone like me who doesn't bother watching Bafana anymore can appreciate what a wonderful achievement this was in the context of their usual performances.

I hope they got a nice welcome home. They deserve a bit of praise. Just a bit mind you

I don't care what Broos say but there is totally no justification for the league too goalscorer not to be in the squad, the reasons he is giving are idiotic since they give the impression that you should have no flaws or weaknesses to be in the squad, no one is perfect and a good coach should be able to get the best out of a player with all their flaws.

Thanks for those highlights.

Didn't watch the game, but what is with the Bafana Bafana goalkeepers during these friendlies? First Goss with that howler and now Williams gifting the Algerians a silly goal.

Even the Algerians' first goal was unnecessary, seems they pushed up and forgot about defending for a moment.

That was most uncharacteristic from Williams, but I am very glad the players are inspired enough to put such decent performance in an away friendly.

We did give away the game,, and very cheaply so, there is still something that makes me uneasy about our defence, sometimes when they play it's like players who play in other positions but have been improvised to play in defence, you just don't get that sense of stability.

Absolutely, that defence sometimes...

Other than that, I think it truly has been a while since we have seen a Bafana that gives it all for the jersey. A 3 all draw is something that gives me hope. It says the Afcon medal was not a once off. Let's just build properly from here on, no chopping and changing the coaches unless he resigns.
