I'm quite sure SS will jump at the chance to get the Bafana matches. It's the one 'big' sports broadcast they don't have the rights to. They'll need to sub lease to SABC, so they'll make some of teh contract cost back on that. Plus the add revenue will be massive.

I think Bafana play about 12 to 15 matches per season.

15 matches aren't worth anywhere near R1bn. And seeing as the SABC got the PSL sub-lease for next to nothing, there'll cry and want to pay nothing for these too.

DSTV refusing to purchase those rights... guess South African's won't be able to watch Bafana bafana win/lose matches anymore, nor would we analyse how the players are doing. Good job Safa!

There was a time in the 90s when there was a blackout on live soccer broadcasts. It was actually cool as we went to the stadium more. :D

I think they only showed the games in other regions of the country but not in the region where it was played.

Well DSTv would have to sub lease to either SABC or Etv, since Bafana matches need to be on free to air. Also the R 1 billion isn't per year, it's over 5 years.
 
Egypt are trying to postpone their qualifier with SA:

Egypt want a 2012 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against South Africa during March postponed until mid-year because of recent political upheaval that led to President Hosni Mubarak being toppled.

The record seven-time winners of the premier Pan-African national team competition are scheduled to play the Group G leaders at an unannounced South African venue over the March 25-27 weekend.

But the political drama in the North African country has prevented any top-flight domestic football being staged for several weeks and a friendly against the United States in Cairo on February 9 was also cancelled.

"The team must have suffered a dip in form after the league was halted so we want to put off the game with South Africa," assistant national coach Hamada Sedki told the respected filgoal.com website.

"We will send a letter to CAF (Confederation of African Football) on Wednesday. We will ask them to play the game in June should they accept our request," he added.

Seeking a fourth consecutive title after final victories in Cairo, Accra and Luanda, Egypt have made a poor start to the elimination phase with a home draw against Sierra Leone followed by a shock loss away to Niger.

South Africa top the table with four points, Niger have three, Sierra Leone two and Egypt one with only the group winners guaranteed a place at the 2012 finals to be co-hosted by Gabon and Equatorial Guinea.

Half of Africa is at war and civil unrest is the order of the day but teams always find a way to play their games. Me thinks Egypt might be chickening out...

CAF must give us a bye with full 3 points :D

Agreed, the game is set to be played in SA, so they are only complaining about preperation time for their team. Even if it was set to be in Egypt, CAF would more likely force them to play the match in another country.
 
It looks like Bafana's 26 March AFCON qualifier against Egypt will now be played at Ellis Park. The match is being moved due to poor pitch quality at Soccer City. Once again, I'd like to say a big "F.u.c.k you" to Stadium Management SA. They cocked up the pitch, and it was barely playable for the Soweto derby. The fed us some **** story about cable theft to get rid of the Chiefs vs Swallows game, all so that they could set up for U2.

It should be investigated and butts should be kicked over this. This is an expensive facility and plenty is being spent on the administration of it.
 
Pitso has announced the squad, and the big news is that Aaron Mokoena has been dropped:

Johannesburg - Pitso Mosimane has recalled Katlego Mphela and Kagisho Dikgacoi to the Bafana Bafana squad that will tackle Egypt.

The crucial African Nations Cup qualifier will be played at Ellis Park on March 26 and with the duo both enjoying regular game time, their selection comes as no surprise.

The South Africa boss named a squad of 24 and revealed a further eight players were included 'for observation'.

Perhaps the most shocking finding was that Aaron Mokoena was again left out of the squad as he struggles to cement a regular starting spot for Portsmouth.

BidVest Wits attacking midfielder Sifiso Myeni has earned another call-up following some sensational performances for the club in recent fixtures.

He could be one of players Mosimane merely wants to have a look at, but the Bafana boss will have a selection headache in the centre of the park and upfront.

Reneilwe Letsholonyane,Thanduyise Khuboni, Andile Jali and Kagisho Dikgacoi, who are all on form, will be jostling for a place in central midfield.

Davide Somma and Mphela form part of the same squad for the first time and Mosimane was coy on how he would make use of the target men.

The local-based players will assemble for camp on 16 March, with the overseas-placed stars joining them on March 20.

I understand that Mokoena was never going to make it 2014, but I do wish that he would have at least been allowed to announce his own retirement.

Zurich - Bafana Bafana have jumped seven spots from No 46 to move to 39 in the latest FIFA rankings while Soccer World Cup winner Spain have stayed on top and the previous two champions, Brazil and Italy, have risen in the top 10.

Spain leads longtime No 2 the Netherlands with Brazil climbing two places to No 3.

Germany and Argentina follow in fourth and fifth as each fell one spot.

Italy ends a seven-month exile from the top 10. It rises two places to No 9 following wins against Slovenia and Ukraine last month.

Asian champion Japan continues its surge since the World Cup, rising two to No 13.

Ghana is Africa's best, up one to No 15.

The United States leads CONCACAF teams at No 22 despite falling for the second straight month.

There are some third party reports about Bafana playing Tanzani in Dar es Salaam on 14 May:

Poulsen said the selected 18-man squad is expected to enter the camp on Friday this week to prepare for the Mozambique friendly, which will be followed by two other high profile games against Chad and South Africa, Bafana Bafana later next month.

The players named to the squad include goalkeepers Shaaban Kado (Mtibwa Sugar) and Shaaban Dihile (JKT Ruvu), defenders Shadrack
Nsajigwa, Nadir Haroub (Yanga), Amir Maftah, Juma Nyoso (Simba) and Aggrey Morris (Azam FC). Midfielders are Nurdin Bakari (Yanga),

While Tanzania may not be the strongest team, I think that it will be a good game. Our players need to get used to playing away in Africa. It should make for good practice for the Egypt game, where hotel will likely be double booked, busses may be stoned and training fields sometimes get flooded.
 
The match has now been confirmed:

Bafana Bafana friendly against Tanzania, to take place at the National Stadium in Dar es Salaam on May 14, has been confirmed.

Safa reached an agreement with the Tanzania Football Federation late last night, and Bafana coach Pitso Mosimane confirmed today (Wednesday) that the match has been finalised.

May 14 is not a Fifa date, but League action is suspended that weekend for the Nedbank Cup semi-finals.

With most national team players out of the Cup, Mosimane will be able to call up a similar squad to that which faced Egypt recently.

“I wish to thank Safa and the PSL for their support of our vision,” Mosimane says.

“We have a crucial date with Egypt in Cairo for the African Nations Cup qualifier on June 3 and this will come as a perfect tune-up match for us ahead of that game.

“It goes without saying that if we win that game, we will be in a very good position to qualify for the 2012 Nations Cup in Equatorial Guinea and Gabon. So this Tanzania game is crucial for us in our preparation for that clash and we will take our strongest possible squad for the match.”

Kickoff

The match is played on Nedbank Cup's semi-final weekend. However, Pirates are the only 'big' team left in the Cup. Pitso should be able to put together a decent team of PSL players for the match.

The game is on Saturday in Dar es Salaam. The foriegn players were not called as most of their seasons are still ongoing, and this is not a FIFA sanctioned date.
