Men: To South Africa in January
South Africa becomes the target for the 2011 January tour with the national team. On site waiting for meetings with South Africa (19 / 1) and Mozambique (22 / 1).

On January 14 the team travels to South Africa. The match against South Africa will be played in Cape Town while Nelspruit is matchort for the meeting with Mozambique. The team is back home in Sweden on 24 January.
In January the matches are professionals on the continent are not available but, as usual, be the player with a Scandinavian resident that the coach could choose from. However, it has been impossible to dislodge the Swedes in the FCK and Rosenborg. In the 21-man squad which Hamrén taken out are nine potential newcomers.
- Something that is positive is that there are very many offensive players competing. There are more people who stand and bang on the door, said Hamrén when he announced the squad on Tuesday.
The squad are several players who have shown up your feet, not only in the Championship this year but also in the under-21 national team's European Championship qualifier. One of those was a surprising statement on Tuesday morning was AIK defenseman Niklas Backman:
Niklas Backman, here in training with the under-21 national team. - It came as a shock, "you are the national team". It was a good morning, a good Christmas present, "said Niklas whose development has been steadily upward curve in recent seasons.
- It has felt good the whole way, from Division 1 with Skiljebo to the Premier League last year with Väsby and even if we did not make a smash season with the team (AIK) for years so it felt good for themselves, "said Backman, who are nevertheless aware that there is an additional step to reach the "real" team.
- Yes, there are a few steps away we are, but it's fun just to be here with and get a chance to prove themselves.
- It's just what's so great about January tour, there is a chance to get to know these players, complementing Eric Hamrén which will also bring the U21's leadership troika, coach s Tommy Soderberg and Håkan Ericson as well as goalkeeper coach Mats Svensson trip to South Africa.
It will be Sweden's first ever international match against Mozambique on Saturday, 22 January in Nelspruit. Mozambique is ranked 98 in the world and relatively unknown to us Swedes. They have recently played 0-0 against Libya and defeated Swaziland 2-1.
The more famous are South Africa (ranked 50 in the world) as Sweden previously met twice, in Pretoria in 1999 where we lost with 0-1 and 2001 in Solna, where Sweden won 3-0. South Africa has lost against the U.S. by 0-1 and drew 0-0 against Sierra Leone next. Sweden launches tour against South Africa in Cape Town Wednesday, January 19th.
