The Bafana Bafana Thread

What ? No Andile Jali? That's sheer madness. Kagisho Digkacoi plays where exactly?

He plays for Fulham. Jali is on the bench.

It also looks like tonight will be Bafana's last match in the World Cup kit. Apparently Puma will be the kit supplier from next year:
Puma officially begins its partnership with the national team on January 1 2011.

A source close to the developments, who asked not be named, told Sowetan that Puma got the nod ahead of Nike and has already made a presentation to Safa as technical sponsor.

The current Adidas sponsorship that was negotiated by Molefi Oliphant and Raymond Hack was worth R14million a year, with Safa also getting a share of royalties.

In addition, Adidas are also paid for all the kits used by the various national teams.

Bafana Bafana will use the Adidas jersey for the last time tonight when they take on the United States in the Nelson Mandela Challenge in Cape Town. The company has already started designing new jerseys for Orlando Pirates, Ajax Cape Town, AmaZulu and Stormers rugby club for next year.

Adidas employees were informed about the end of the Safa relationship two weeks ago when the design of the new Bafana kit was discussed.

Adidas has been sponsoring Safa since after the 1998 World Cup in France, taking over from Italian sports apparel company Kappa.

Safa president Kirsten Nematandani could not be reached for comment yesterday, but Adidas spokesperson Zobuzwe Ngobese said: "As far as I know, there is nothing official. It is true the contract is coming to an end at the end of the year."

Adidas are said to be unhappy with the treatment meted out to them by Safa ahead of the 2010 World Cup.

They argue that certain Safa officials were unfair in blaming their company for agreeing to design Bafana replica jerseys without the Proteas emblem.

The Sowetan

Puma did design some good WC kits, I really liked the Ghana and Ivory Coast ones. I own the Confed Cup and WC jerseys, but my favourite design will always be the Kappa 96 AFCON one.

The things which I would like to see are sticking with gold and green, none of that white madness of 2000. Also, the protea is non-negotiable, and I'd like to see a small star added to the shirt for the 96 AFCON.

[-]How often does Dikgacoi get to play ? I haven't seen him play since the EPL started.[/-]
Edit. Actually never mind. I have just googled Fulham website and the guy has only made one appearance this season as a substitute.:erm:

My Opinion is that regular match players should get to start the match with the bench warmers brought on with only 5 minutes of the match left. During the WC we found out the hard way when the likes of Diego Forlan and Louis Suarez ran rings around the unfit Bafana bench warmers from Europe.

Oh hell no Puma with their body hugging shirts...now Benni McCarthy has no hope of ever featuring in Bafana colours :D

I'd also prefer to see the regular club players playing. While the Premeir League is better than the PSL, I'd rather have a player who plays 90 minutes the PSL each match, instead of 5 minutes 2 weeks in the EPL.

Puma's shirt do seem to be designed for more slim built people. Benni's career is at an end anyway. Some reports say that he's coming back to the PSL in January.

I'm going to the game, took half the day off work, guess what, they shifted me for the 2nd half of the day, fsckers.
I finish at 8.30 so I hope to be there in time for kick off,I reckon the yanks might edge this one.

Is this very late kickoff meant to accommodate you? You must be very important person:D

I was hoping that with the late kick off SABC would give us some pre match build up, but it looks like they only start coverage at 9.30. It would also be nice if SA's ESPN showed the match, but that's not the case, so be it.

At Sundowns he played on the wing for while and he totally sucked because he has no pace. As soon as he moved into the heart of the midfield, his true class started showing. Maybe he wasn't used in his natural position at Newcastle.

He was a midfielder iirc,it seemed like he was out of his depth,I'm not critising him now just saying he used to be rather poor but it seems like her has improved alot.Like booth,i used to lol at booth back in the day,he too was shyte but now(or 2-3 years ago)he is/was good.

Half time and the match is scoreless. Bafana are playing well but the defence is a bit shaky. Hopefully we can get a winning goal.

We pressing them well. The defence looks shaky but usa hardly look attacking. We need to move the ball faster and somme looks good. Tshabala Delivery has been poor tonight

Bafana lost 1-0, to a late goal against the run of play. SA played well, but the team just didn't look sharp enough at times. Our defence was shaky, but we were missing both 1st choice central defenders. It was a good exercise though, in giving new players a chance. Somma looks like he could be something good, and the team played well overall. The one major flaw was the set pieces, those really need to be worked on.

Overall, I'd say it was probably a good year for Bafana, but not great. They only lost 2 matches all year, which must be the first time in many years that this happened. Hopefully, with a stringer team next year, they can beat Egypt in SA, and then go on to qualify for the 2012 AFCON.

Bafana's 2010 record is: played 17, won 9, drew 6, lost 2. They also scored 26 goals, and conceeded 10.

is Bafana Bafana playing tonight again?

No it was only 1 day of friendlies. The next friendly should be in February but Pitso wants a game in December. Football teams get at least 2 days rest between matches it isn't baseball.
