Injuries have forced Reneilwe Letsholonyane, Steven Pienaar and Anele Ngcongca out. Oupa Manyisa (Orlando Pirates) and Daylon Claasen (Lierse) have been called into the squad. The match will be broadcast on SABC, with coverage starting at 8pm! Yes, Generations has been moved, rejoice sports fans.
 
A good win for Bafana last night, 3-0.

Bafana Bafana ran out comfortable 3-0 winners in their international friendly against Burkina Faso at Coca-Cola Park on Wednesday night.

Bafana dominated throughout, moving the ball around with some crisp passing and harassing the Burkinabe defence whenever possession was lost.

Siboniso Gaxa almost got the hosts off to the perfect start, but his thunderbolt effort from 25 yards out was expertly saved by goalkeeper Germain Sanou.

Katlego Mphela opened the scoring as early as the 14th minute, slotting a curling free-kick which gave Sanou no chance.

Five minutes later and it was 2-0 as captain on the night Siphiwe Tshabalala got on the score-sheet, netting from a tight angle after being set up by Daylon Claasen. It was his first goal for his country since the opener of the 2010 World Cup.

Bafana continued to dominate, but it took until the 52nd minute for them to find a third, with Mphela getting his second after an inch-perfect through-ball from Thulani Serero.

Bafana keeper Itumeleng Khune only made his first save on 60 minutes, illustrating the hosts’ dominance against the continent’s fourth-ranked side.

The game deteriorated towards the latter stages as both sides made a number of changes, but still Pitso Mosimane and his troops will feel confident going into next month’s African Nations Cup qualifier against Niger.

Kickoff

Glad to see Shabba break his duck, and Claasen and Serero get good runs. Was only dissapointed by the small crowd.

He hadn't scored for Bafana since the opening game of the WC against Mexico.

Also, the Burkina Faso coach is blaming SAFA for the loss:

Johannesburg - Burkina Faso coach Paulo Duarte was outraged at the final whistle of his side's 3-0 capitulation at the hands of Bafana Bafana on Wednesday night.

When asked if he felt disappointed with the Stallions' performance the Portuguese boss launched into an attack on the South African authorities who had made a balls-up of his side's chances in their international friendly at Coca-Coca Park.

Only 10 Burkinabe were actually in the country on the eve of the game and while a number of their European-based players failed to arrive at all, the side, who are ranked the fourth best in Africa, even had some players arrive on the morning of the match. As it turned out, Duarte had only 16 players unavailable, including two goalkeepers.

How does this work? I thought a visiting team is paid a match appearance fee for a friendly and that they in turn make their own travel arrangements ? SAFA needs to come out and clear this up. It's good to win but there should be no doubt with regards to the credibility of a win.

Yeah I have to put on my 10X magnifying glasses to enjoy a games screened by SABC :D It's almost like they use only one camera.
 
Yup, bafana really needed the 3-0 win. does allot for their confidence, players and coach.
Apparently it was bafana's first 3 goal winning margin :)

I doubt that...Bafana has beaten the likes of Thailand, Guatemala, Namibia, to name just a few by the same or more winning margins.

Yeah, I think they beat Guatemala 4/5- 0 in last years warm up for the WC.

Good performance by the boys. we stroked the ball around nicely.

I read that SAFA paid them $75 000 for the match, not sure who books the plane tickets.

It's their first 3 goal win since Pitso took over.

As for SABC coverage, the less said the better. I can only hope that SAFA get a better TV deal pushed through soon.

The new deal is going to the SABC. SAFA are working on a package the SABC can afford. They have said no to satellite.

I'd prefer a SABC and DSTV deal, with DSTV producing the matches, and SABC simply showing them.
 
Guys, I was most impressed by Dillon Classen. I think Pienaar has some serious competition for the play maker's position :D
 
Bafana have moved up 2 places to 47:

Berne - Netherlands went top of the FIFA world rankings for the first time on Wednesday without playing a match in the last month.


Although their friendly against England was cancelled because of the London riots, Netherlands benefited as previous leaders Spain were beaten by Italy to lose their place at the top.

World and European champions Spain had led for one year.

Bafana Bafana have climbed two positions up from No 49 last month to 47. The team thrashed Burkina Faso 3-0 in a friendly international at Coca-Cola Park earlier this month.


The Dutch became the seventh team to head the rankings since they were introduced in 1993 after Argentina, Brazil, France, Germany, Italy and Spain.

Brazil's 3-2 friendly defeat by Germany cost them two places as they dropped from fourth to sixth, meaning that Uruguay, who remained fifth, became South America's highest-ranked team.

Kickoff

Teko Modise is back in the team. I watched him last night against Swallows...the man has rediscovered his form. Good call-up also for Nyatama, Mathoho, and Manyisa even though they are unlikely to play. The benefits of having a local coach is that he knows and follows every players's progress. Overall I think the national team is well balanced with lots of depth and cover in all departments.
