SABC failure, again:

The South African Broadcasting Corporation (SABC) has admitted that the 2012 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier between Niger and South Africa on Sunday may not be beamed live in the country.

The bone of contention being the R5 million that SportFive has demanded from the SABC, of which the public broadcaster insists it won't pay.

SportFive holds exclusive marketing and media rights as an agent of CAF from 2009 to 2016.

A win for Bafana in Niamey will guarantee Pitso Mosimane's boys a place in next year's Africa Cup of Nations tournament to be co-hosted by Gabon and Equatorial Guinea, but for many South Africans they may be deprived of witnessing the moment, as alluded to by the SABC's spokesperson Kaizer Kganyago that "unless something dramatic happens" the likelihood is the match may not be shown live as the two parties have reached a deadlock.

"Unless there is something dramatic that happens between (Thursday and Friday) we won't show the match. They want R5 million and we are saying no we can't pay R5 million… If they don't go down on the fee that they are charging, the match won't be live," he says.

It is the SABC's view that they are being ripped off by SportFive, because after all most countries apparently pay no more than R1.4 million and SABC says it has offered more than R1.4 million.

"You can understand how complicated this is getting, because now at the end of the day our own players, our own team, are going to play out there and we are not in a position to support them and let South Africans, the sport loving people, see the game because of issues like this. Therefore, we have to stand together and fight against this abuse of the country," Kganyago declares.

He adds: "People think because we hosted the World Cup we have a lot of money."

The response to the news has been swift on Team Kick Off with one of its members, Setaka-ka-ma***o, commending the SABC for putting out the matter in the public domain.

"Openness and transparency will take you somewhere SABC. It was heartwarming to hear Kaizer Kganyago letting in the nation on the possibility of the channel failing to beam Bafana v Niger over the weekend. Though it is a sad state of affairs, at least knowing now we can psyche ourselves to trawl other means of keeping in touch on the game's proceedings. Trusting KickOff.com will come in handy."

Kickoff

Does anyone know of a website with live streaming of the game? Otherwise I'll be stuck watching live scores on a text site.

Final squad changes, Moeneeb Josephs and Tlou Segolela have been released due to injuries. Sean Roberts has been called up as Josephs' replacement, but Pitso is happy with the wingers he has. Mphela will travel with the team. They leave for Niger tonight.
 
It is surprising that the rest of the continent do not hold TV rights (all belong to Sport5 aka CAF media company) for their respective national team matches, while in SA the SABC has rights. This is just punishment to SAFA for not following 'protocol'. Greedy CAF.
 
I think this situation is ridiculous. I'd love to watch Bafana play, but the SABC has mucked up badly, AGAIN.

/me prays that supersport will somehow secure coverage.

On DStv's forum they have said that they are not going to try, and at this late stage I can understand that. The best I can do is offer a website claiming that they will stream it. Not sure if it will work though, but I'm hoping: oleoletv

Also, Sierra Leone beat Egypt 2-1 yesterday. That draws them level on 8 points with us, and eliminates Egypt.

Not SABC bro, Africa. The CAF organization has always been **** and will continue to be **** as long as Africa is ****.

We an say what we want about SAFA, but they can't really elevate their game when they're stuck in this ****ty organisation.

If that is correct we have to draw or beat sierra leone, i honestly thought there was no way we would not qualify,but now its very close.

Let me put this nicely, "we be ****ed!"

We are 2nd on 8 points, 1 behind Niger. They get to play the Egypt kindergarten in their last match, while we play Sierra Leone, who also have 8 points. To win the group, we need Niger to draw or lose, and we need to win.

We could still finish second if both we and Niger win, but only the best 2 2nd placed teams go through, other than group K. However, we would lose our 4 points gained from Egypt in the 2nd place calculation, as they will finish last in the group.

Also, the SABC are master amazing tricksters, claiming that they have the rights, and then blaming it on technical problems. Reminds of their claim that their crew git stcuk in the Ivory Coast.

We coulkd still qualify as best 3rd place i think if we lose. But we were cruising the group after 3 games :( Why do we make things so damn difficult. Surely we good enough to take these teams down. Wheres Somma?

No 3rd plce teams can go through. We can go through as a second placed team, as per my post, but it will be difficult. As for Somma, he is injured.
 
My confidence in the boys is a bit shaky now. But, like lilggg said, we are good enough and there is still a good chance that we will still make it. Besides, Pitso wouldn't allow anything less than making it through to the AFCON.
