Gordon is on the shortlist, coach should be named by 30 June.

We need development, there isn't a quick fix.

I maintain that school soccer is importent. SAFA needs to somehow get rich schools to take soccer seriously, or at least play the sport.

I don't know how to convince the schools, but I think they are best equiped to develop good players.

Agreed. It starts with grassroots development. Get a majot sponsor and have provincial school tournaments every year for all age groups starting from under 9's. Get the winners from each province competing in another tournament where all final matches be televised.

The Under 18 or under 23 coach has to be interviewed as the National coach in-waiting. He has to get accustomed to his players at a earlier age group so as to fully understand each individual by his strengths and weaknesses when finally instilled as National coach.

Oh, and get all inefficient Safa staff replaced by people with ideas. Pay me R800k a month for 3 months and I'll be full of ideas.

One hurdle to this would be the use of over-age players at junior level. A real problem. Incident at the metropolitan tournament recently that I heard about.

No he hasn't got it yet but really if he doesn't get it then something is seriously wrong with SAFA. Even if he fails terribly, after all he has done in local soccer he deserves a go.
 
Yea that's what i'm worried about, he should get it hands down.

Maybe its because football in SA doesn't embrace diversity... ?

Why are there no qouta's for the minorities that can play ?

Sorry but that is a stupid thing to say. Soccer has never excluded anyone on the basis of race, all players have equal opportunity.

The Khoza's and Motaung's run the show.

Throw in Motsepe and a few other rich dudes and you have the gang...

No such thing as players being selected only on merit and not colour... This is SA remember.

SAFA loves doing things their own way...the administrators love calling the shots with no race card to pull unlike other sporting codes in SA..

You're reaching. The people you quote aren't actually involved in the selection of players (maybe Khoza, the others are all business). In SA everyone wants to win and none of them would turn down a good player simply because he doesn't fit some racist stereotype.

As someone who has followed local soccer here, I can tell you why. The most promising white players often move to England or sometimes other parts of Europe and play there and often because they have dual citizenship and hold out for the chance of playing for the overseas teams.

I was speaking to someone who was part of the scouting process for one of the local teams last year and he said they offered nearly 10 white kids provisional youth contracts at a couple of their trials and all of them turned the chance down. Now obviously its not the same for everyone of a race but if not enough minorities are getting involved in local soccer, then there is not much SAFA can do in terms of selection. There has been an increase of coloured players in the local scene though.

That said when there have been decent/good white players they have always been given a shot.
 
I was trying to keep race out of it, but yes, white kids with dual citizenship often go to Europe, it's just an advantage they have.

I wish more 'white' schools would play soccer though.

We don't need a coach, we need a technical director who asks the hard questions. Why don't the country's top schools play football, and how do we get them to play. Why do we have schools who have or want football, but don't have access to fields.

Why do we have 'clubs' which are no more than a team which can be sold at any time? We don't have enough community clubs to train players. Why is the PSL, and indeed all football, so top heavy?

That's what I mean by top heavy. Pirates and Chiefs get a ton of money, but there isn't much going in terms of development.
 
The way Benny McC bombed out in Europe gives us clues to what is wrong with soccer in SA. Its about the bling ... a bling-bling entitlement culture where hard work is optional. Rather pay a sangoma R100k than put in the extra time and effort. Nice cars, sexy woman, etc the easy way. Not professional sportsmen in any shape or size. This culture must be broken before Bafana will get anywhere ... and whoever is going to try breaking the sick culture will be accused of being a ________ (word of your choice).

As I keep saying, we need the county's top schools to play football, as they are best placed to train players.

Anyway, Bafana's next match is a friendly against Gabon on Friday in Nelspruit.
 
I think we should forget 2014 and 2018 and re-start the whole development. Develop a 12 year old to play in the 2018 or 2022 WC. Development as mentioned a thousand times already.

No one is going to save this pathetic team.
