So far we haven't looked all that convincing but at least we are scoring goals, so it is promising.

Jeez when the Moroccans started time wasting when it was 1-0, it really pissed me off. Then Khune does the same thing despite his Afcon qualifier fiasco a while back. Glad the Moroccans got eliminated though.
 
I was really glad to see Bafana twice fight back. It's something I haven't seen in a long time, and shows great spirit.
 
Two awesome goals by Bafana. But sorry, soccer/football still sucks. Acting. Time wasting. Bad sportsmanship. Arguing with the ref.
 
Wow, we were close to being knocked out. Kinda like the World Cup, only there we were just knocked out.
 
Also very good that we came away with a draw against an Arab team, who are notorious for their physicality.
 
I am glad though that we made it through. The fact that Bafana Bafana were able to rise to the occasion and score 2 goals is not bad at all. I am hoping to see the goals as I missed the match.
 
While we are all still celebrating, I thought that I'd bring up the point of expats/foreign trained players for Bafana. It's become quite common for African teams, and teams in general, to attempt to persuade European born or trained players to play for your country. Morocco last night had 7 foreign born players in their starting XI. These players often have received better training than local trained players. Current FIFA rules allow players to switch nationality after playing junior football for one country to play senior football for another country. The first Bafana player to do this was Ricardo Nunes, though some doubt remains about his switch. Other foreign trained, but SA born players include Dean Furman, Davide Somma, Andrew Surman (turned down call up), Kgosi Ntlhe (U20 cap), Joel Untersee. Back in the day we had Pierre Issa and Hans Vonk.

Do you think that SAFA should be more actively searching for these players? Every now and then you read about an SA born player popping up in Portugal or the USA, and I always wonder if SA even keep track of them, or try to contact them. Thoughts?

Absolutely. Our development standards are nowhere near the levels of a few African countries, let alone comparable to European structures.
 
CAF has ranked Bafana as 6th at the tournament CAF Stats

We played 4, won 1 and drew 3. Scored 5 goals and conceded 3. It was our best AFCON performance for 11 years.
 
Bafana Bafana’s quarterfinal appearance at the Africa Cup of Nations has seen them jump a remarkable 25 places in the FIFA world rankings.

Gordon Igesund’s men have moved up to 60th in the world, and are now number 10 in Africa.

AFCON champions Nigeria have risen 22 places to 30th in the world and fourth on the continent, with Ivory Coast, Ghana and Mali above them.

Beaten finalists Burkina Faso were the biggest movers, up 37 places to ninth in Africa and 57th overall.

Spain still lead the overall rankings, followed by Germany, Argentina and England. 2014 World Cup hosts are struggling down in 18th place.

Some good news for CT fans:

Cape Town - The City of Cape Town will host a 2014 FIFA Soccer World Cup qualifying match between Bafana Bafana and the Central African Republic next month, the Cape Argus reported on Wednesday.

The match would take place at the Cape Town stadium on March 23.

The 2015 AFCON qualifier seedings are out:

Johannesburg - The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has revealed the seeding for the draw for the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) to be held in Morocco.

According to the supersport.com website, the draw will take place on March 10 in Morocco during a CAF General Assembly, with the qualification procedure reverting to its normal format as opposed to the modified mode for the just-conclude edition.

Forty-four teams are on the starting line and seeded in four pots of 11 teams each according to their current ranking.

Seedings:

Pot one: Nigeria, Burkina Faso, Cote d’Ivoire, Togo, Mali, South Africa, Cape Verde, DR Congo, Zambia, Tunisia, Ghana.

Pot two: Egypt, Libya, Algeria, Senegal, Cameroon, Guinea, Sierra Leone, Gabon, Uganda, Congo, Central African Republic.

Pot three: Ethiopia, Benin, Angola, Niger, Zimbabwe, Equatorial, Mozambique, Malawi, Burundi, Liberia, Sudan.

Jali was dropped as he was 'disruptive', take what you will from that. Gould, is a glass canon, the man is great, but is injured half the time. Shabba should be dropped, but Klate should be in. I wonder why Darren Keet wasn't called? Club interference kept him out of the AFCON.

A bold move to drop Khumalo, but he has been off his game for a long time, and isn't getting regular football in Greece.

New rankings:
Cape Town - Bafana Bafana held on to 60th position in the latest FIFA world rankings released on Thursday.

South Africa have not played a match since they reached the quarter-finals of the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) last month, which lifted them 25 places to their current position in the ratings list.

However, they were overtaken by Cape Verde Islands, dropping one position to 11th in the rankings among African nations.

Being outside the top 10 is dangerous, for qualification draws. It puts us into pot 2, so we would face a seeded team. SAFA have again ****ed up, by not organising a friendly after the WC qualifier! That's points down the toilet.
