Wrong comparison, we had our overseas players available for that game. Pirates players too.We can beat Spain, but not Mali.

Yes it's disgraceful that we struggled in this tournament with most of the best PSL players, I agree with you. But you can't compare the CHAN with the game against Spain. Only two or three of the players who played today played against Spain. Completely different teams but you speak like it's the same team ("We can beat Spain, but not Mali").None of these teams have overseas based players. SA's squads are normally PSL dominated and our opposition are closer to amatuers.
Igesund had a mandate to reach at least the final of the 2013 AFCON, he couldn't get past the quarterfinals. He had a mandate to win 2014 CHAN, he couldn't even get out of the first round! And both these tournaments were at our own backyard. He also couldn't beat lowly Ethiopia to reach the 2014 FIFA World Cup Playoffs. He has failed spectacularly so why should he not be fired? What more can he give? He has not achieved anything.I don't think Igesund will get the boot for this one. They'd be ridiculous to do so...
Still, our league is supposed to be miles ahead of our competitors in this tournament. Nigerian players were called up just 3 weeks before the tournament and I think they are in recess. We should have done better, there's no excuse. At least if we had decided to play under-23 players like the other countries we could then take something out of the tournament, having used it for development. Some teams even had teenagers.I don't think they had nowhere near as strong a squad as they should have had. Don't think the big three even sent their players. As long as we have such a kark setup we will continue to be embarrassing.
So who would you replace him with? My money is on Stuart Baxter but I am a little biased on that one for personal reasons...![]()
Oh ok, that makes things easy then, just wait for June and don't renew his contract. As for the lack of Pirates players our team should still advance from the first round against teams boasting largely semi-professionals. I would accept the failure if we had used youngsters with a development goal. The team had Chiefs and Sundowns players but not Pirates, it was not like the 2011 team.
I don't think that SAFA will fire GI. His contractbis up in June, it will be cheaper to see it out than to fire him. AFCON qualifiers only start in september.
Pirates are way behind in the league, like 5 to 6 games less than other teams. This past Saturday they played Wits to try and catch up.Baxter would be stupid to go back. He was royally screwed over by SAFA last time he took that job. Unless he can negotiate a huge salary I don't see him going back.
Why did Pirates refuse to let their players play in the CHAN? I know Chiefs also started by saying they are not letting theirs play and then changed minds.
Baxter was used before and based on that history I don't think he will be considered again. Names like Steve Khomphela, Gavin Hunt, and Shakes Mashaba will come up if we are going local again. By the way a SAFA executive was fired for telling the media before that tournament that Igesund should win CHAN or get fired. So who would you replace him with? My money is on Stuart Baxter but I am a little biased on that one for personal reasons...![]()
