The Bafana Bafana Thread

There's just under 11 days until world cup starts, can wait.
Probably going to be a win for Mexico or a draw if S. Africa are lucky.

Bafana are playing Gautamala in tomorrow. The game is at the new Peter Mokaba Stadium, and kicks at 20:30. It is Bafana's last friendly before the squad is cut to 23 players.

No WC host has ever lost its first game, and I don't expect that to change. Bafana to beat Mexico 1 or 2 nil, in front of 94 700 crazy fans! :D

Indeed a draw is very possible but a win from South Africa just won't happen - although it's happened in many previous world cups.

Come to think about it either side could win, especially South Africa because they have the home advantage(which is huge) so even RSA could definitely win.
Today they play Guatemala who is ranked 114.

1990 World Cup opening game: Argentina (defending champions) 0 Cameroon 1

Check the wiki page for Bafana, and it has the whole squad listed. Each player has a page with info on them (infact if someone with international cap could load some info on each player, or make a new thread that would be great).

Great to see people taking and interest in the team.:D

I saw the wiki page already, its a good start but the link to player pages has very little info on the players ito key statistics. Also who's playing what position, etc. And a proper analysis of how players are likely to be deployed for specific matches?

Isn't there something written by sports fans for sports fans somewhere?

Also France lost against Senegal in 2002, but what I'm trying to say is that Mexico can cause a first-match upset because they score goals even against big teams like England/Netherlands.
At least it's going to be an exciting match with Bafana's current performance :) .

The squad will only be trimmed to the required 23 after tonight's game. Apart from Pienaar, look out for Masilela at left-back and Tshabablala. I would like to include Modise in that, but I can't. Need those three players to fire.

Agreed on those, but don't forget Booth either.

Personally I won't be sad to see either McCarthy or Mokoena not being in the final 23.

3 - 0. Good goal by Surprise Moriri.

Don't know why the ref gave guatemala a penalty, but great safe by Joseph.

Goal of the season. Outside the box from an angle by Bernard Parker.

5 - 0.

Bernard Parker deserves a spot NOT only in the 23 team but all the games in the 11 man squad.. Him, along with Matthew Booth stuck in my mind since the Confed Cup

What a goal!!
Bafana must have Bernard Parker, he retains the ball and challenges defenders confidently.
Mphela for penalties.

Almost a goal again, he's making the cut for sure.

You know when Joel Santana was sacked, one must remember that RSA lost their many games in series to ESP,BRA,ESP,Serbia,GER and Ireland which are flippin good teams.
Now I'm quite confident that hiring Alberto Parreira was the right decision with the large unbeaten streak.

Lots of noise is made when the team slides but I have seen very little being said about them rising 7 places during May. Now 83rd.

Considering the teams that SA beaten lately has some really dodgy calls... Hand ball anyone?!?!?!?

I'll reserve my judgment until the group matches are over, but right now all I can say is @ 1 million a month Perraria better be doing something positive to the team, or we should fry his nads in hot oil

Perreira isn't the highest earner in this WC. Even the Nigeria and Ivory Coast are paying their coaches more.
Pay peanuts and get a monkey.
