Great to see Claasen back. Maybe he can be what Serero wasn't. Serero didn't look committed enough for me at the Afcon. Although he is pure class and clearly better than anyone else in Bafana. But he needs to know he's not indispensable. Good move.

As much as I don't rate Shabba, who would you replace him with?

Here Igesund explains at length why Serero and Khumalo were dropped, then when asked about Jali says he 'doesn't want to talk about players that aren't here'. Hahaha. Clearly he doesn't want to disclose his reasons for not picking him.

But from what I've heard, Jali is an arrogant little prick.

Jali is an arrogant prick for sure, but he is a good player. I think age has something to with it.

I remember there was some guy who was assaulted or something in Randburg where he (Jali) was involved somehow. The matter was settled out of cort IIRC. Link
 
At least Nomvethe or Katlego Mashego (2nd highest scorer PSL) should have been there. Very decisive concerning Khumalo.
 
Gordon on youth football:

Bafana Bafana coach Gordon Igesund has hatched a plan to save the junior international players in the country.

As a point of departure, the Under-20 squad that reached the last 16 of the Fifa World Cup in 2009 in Egypt could be used to prove that most junior internationals have been discarded when they should have progressed to the senior team.

In fact, only Daylon Claasen and Dino Ndlovu from that Under-20 team have been named in the Bafana Bafana squad to play against Central African Republic on March 23 in Cape Town.

It's a good plan, but it would be better if there were functioning youth teams. Anyone know what the U23, U20 and U17 teams are doing this FIFA week? ****all, that's what. In fact as far as I can see, the U23s last played in December 2011, the U20s in November and the U17s in December.

These FIFA weeks are precious, but if SAFA can't organise friendlies for the senior team, what hope is there for the juniors. I know foreign clubs won't release juniors, but SAFA should work with the PSL to play on these dates.
 
The outcome of this game is looking certain. Another goal will be good for the points difference. Go boys! :)
 
Goats goats goats! :mad: Can't finish to save their lives! This is pathetic considering how tiny CAR is in African football! If you can't win by at least a three goal margin at home against these guys who are you gonna do it against?? This is a league format and goals might very well decide things, only 5 teams going to Brazil from the whole African continent! :mad:
 
What a finish. Should have scored at least another 2 or 3 at the end there. Finishing disappointing, but it's a great win.

That first goal was amazing. It was a decent performance, but not great, we do get 3 points out of it though. We will need to do some work before back to back away qualifiers against CAR and Ethiopia in June. Once again, SAFA has stupidly not scheduled a friendly for Tuesday. It would have been a good chance to try out some back up players.

Bafana Bafana have slipped two places on the official FIFA World Ranking chart, moving from 60th position into 62nd place. The international governing body of football released the latest statistics on Thursday, April 11.

South Africa’s last official outing saw them defeat Central African Republic 2-0 in a 2014 FIFA World Cup qualifier, however have lost two places in FIFA’s ranking system. Sat in 62nd place with 530 points, Gordon Igesund’s side is lying in 11th place in the CAF region.

From a continental perspective, Ivory Coast continue to lead the charts, followed by Ghana, Mali, Nigeria and Algeria, who make up the top five African countries respectively.

Spain continue with their dominance of world football, leading the overall charts. The defending FIFA World Champions are followed by Germany in second place and Argentina in third.

Croatia has moved up into fourth spot and Portugal into fifth, with Columbia, England, Italy, Netherlands and Ecuador completing, respectively, the list of top 10.

Bafana Bafana will play neighbours Lesotho in a friendly international on June 1 in Maseru.

The match is in preparation for the 2014 World Cup qualifier against Central Africa Republic in the Cameroonian capital, Yaoundé on June 9.

Bafana are back into Africa's top 10:

Gordon Igesund’s team has moved from 62nd position into 56th place, with Bafana currently ranked just outside of the top 50. With no games having been played in the last month, South Africa are on 541 points, having been adjusted in accordance with FIFA's point structure.


From a continental point of view, Bafana are ranked in ninth place, while the Ivory Coast continue to lead the CAF region. Ghana, Mali, Nigeria and Algeria complete the top five African nations, respectively.

It's really important that the team stay in the top 10 in Africa. This will allow us to be seeded for the 2015 AFCON qualifiers.
