The Banting/LCHF Thread

Double cream greek style yogurt is safe, as is mascarpone cheese (which to me tastes more like mint and vanilla ice cream than cheese)

The mint and vanilla bit is phantom - it's like when you lose your leg but your foot still itches. :D

Hi All

So I've been following this thread for about a week or so, just reading the comments and trying to glean some info on the whole LCHF diet - I have also done some research of my own and would like to get on to this diet (I understand that there are two very opposing sentiments towards this diet, those that think its a load of rubbish and those that swear by it - I'm willing to give it a go though)

So I went to this site http://keto-calculator.ankerl.com/ to get some info on what my macros should be ( I would like to have your opinions on these numbers, are yours similar ?)

I'm 173cm tall, 74,4Kg (I'm carrying extra fat around the tummy waist area - which I am looking to drop), my macros came out as below (per day)

* 1508 kcal Goal
* 25g Carbohydrates
* 90g Protein (76g min, 125g max)
* 116g Fat (86g min, 202g max)

How does those numbers stack up against what you guys are doing ? I plan to start the diet on the 1st Feb - I guess my next steps would be to plan "banting meals" that make up the daily fat, protein, carb intake.

Any comments welcome, thanks

:sick:

Anyway, i used All Gold Paste.
It tasted much better the following day. But all it needed was olives to give it that distinct pizza taste.

Add some fresh basil and coriander leaves (rougly chopped) to your pizza straight after it comes out the oven.

Oh yes, you are short some cheese on that meatza

I think instead of food I'd rather cut my face off. When this pain comes back in a couple of minutes I'm going to [redacted for being off topic]

Thanks
Can any of you guys share your daily meal plan?

Erm... I just take "normal meals", throw out the carbs, add extra veg, and smother it in butter.

Avocado is a staple during my day, as are eggs. Scrambled in butter, fried, boiled, and raw - depending on how lazy I am feeling. Cream in tea & coffee.

I'm really lazy, I don't even eat breakfast anymore. And often start my meals at noon - often with raw eggs & some supplemental oils like coconut, high quality flax, and some fish oil.

Greek style? I've looked and cant find it. Can just find the double cream plain ones.
Sorry about that, I checked what's in my fridge atm and Spar renamed theirs from "greek style" to just "Double Cream Yoghurt - Plain". Still tastes the same, no sugar in the ingredients, and only 4g carbs per 100g. Woolies' is slightly higher at 7g/100g, but it doesn't have sugar and has never kicked me out of ketosis.

Definitely :D

Try http://www.ruled.me/30-day-ketogenic-diet-plan/ for a ready made 30 day eating plan. Mix and match as you go along, if you don't want to skip meals then don't, and do give bullet proof coffee a go. These recipes contain the calories, fat and carbs of all meals. It also encourages freezing meals for easy warming up, or leftovers for lunch.

Thanks for that, pretty awesome.

I was wondering,usually belly fat is the last to go and most stubborn to burn off, have any of you guys seen dramatic changes to the belly area while on LCHF, I've heard of people losing up to 4kg in the first week, just wondering if any of that could have come of the belly

Sticking to it 3kg+ is easy the first week, but I'm still plagued by my beer keg :-P

It totally depends on your genes.

The initial weight loss is mostly water loss.... and remember you gain that water back when you start eating carbs again.

Yeh, I mos had my final binge the past weekend on beer. I started again on Monday with a strict menu and still today haven't been back where I was last Friday morning.

The scale is the enemy! Don't get on it more than once a week. And always weigh the same time of day.
Rather check your measurements. You will notice that you still loose cm's.
