The Banting/LCHF Thread

Gosh. Chocolates, double cream, mascarpone, wors.....but heaven forbid you eat a potato.
It doesn't make sense to me. How long can one stay on this diet? Also, does it not perhaps damage your kidneys/liver in the long term?

This is a lifestyle, not a diet. Why would your liver be damaged when you stop eating processed crap and start eating real food.

The problem with potatoes aren't that (we think) they're unhealthy, it's just that they have too much carbs. Ketosis only works if you keep your carbohydrate intake really low (as low as 20~30g for some people), which means that even healthy food which happen to have high carbohydrate counts are incompatible.

Dark chocolate is mostly cocoa and butter, it's night and day compared to normal milk chocolate. Dairy fat is nowhere near as unhealthy as we've been told for the last few decades, hell, the low-fat dairy products are probably worse for you because they compensate for the removed fat by adding in sugar.

I actually don't even like potatoes anymore, bought some slap chips the other day as a "treat" and ended up giving them away to a streetkid. Turnips and cauliflower are much tastier and I use them in stews in place of potatoes to give some bulk.

tried turnip mash didnt like it at all .... love cauli mash though, cream and some garlic works great

I chow cauliflower mash as a mashed potatoe substitute - often. Flipping love the stuff. Wife makes it with cream and stuff. Dunno what. Just tastes damned good.

Hmmm try it as the base for a potjie, with the stew spooned on top ( no potatoes obviously ). It sucks the gravy something awesome. Also wifes been putting some cottage cheese in mine, interesting flavor.

*edit*

And have to say, another week another kilo down :D
