The Banting/LCHF Thread

Just went and did my cholesterol test and it was 7.3 :( 

yeah, regardless of the science behind banting and what cholesterol is or isn't, the effects and results can vary because of various factors. I had to stop LCHF eating, as it was silently killing me, blood pressure went through the roof, lucky for me I went for a vitality points check up and found out.

Anyhow changed completely, went onto the DASH eating program, which is almost the polar opposite of LCHF - blood pressure has significantly dropped and weight is dropping faster than on LCHF - basically not everyone is the same.

I would highly suggest to check blood pressure if you following a LCHF lifestyle.

Mine is coming down. You were probably not doing it right. There is absolutely no reason your blood pressure would go up. Did you pick up weight by any chance?

Cant see how LCHF would affect BP. Mine is dead low due to it. Average 110/70, Cholesterol has been proven to be meaning less to heart disease

who knows why, but the DASH eating plan is designed to lower blood pressure and is the polar opposite of LCHF eating - worked for me, which is all I care about, was a tad worrying having BP of 201/131 - anyhow after 2 weeks down to below 150/100 and lost 4.5kg as well.
LCHF I suppose works for most people, I dropped weight on it, 17kg in 3 months, but for whatever reason BP was emergency room levels - I just hate hospitals, so nah

Yoh! Those are insane levels.
 
Did you have high BP to begin with, before starting banting? The first time I read about banting effectings someones BP negatively.

nope, did a check for an insurance about 6 months ago and one about 2 months ago, all good, so was quite surprised from the reading 2 weeks ago.

possibly other factors may have caused this BP problem but the LCHF lifestyle doesn't help in lowering it. I'm now eating a lot more fruit, bananas occasional sweet potatoes but no fat yogurt and no fat milk, no coffee and no red meat.....yay:(
Still avoiding most carbs and all sugars, but red meats, bacon, salt and high fats out the window.

no fat yogurt with fruits and berries and banting muesli, skinless chicken with salad, bananas, watermelon and grapes during the day, grilled fish with veg, etc. the DASH eating plan does allow for grains and brown rice, even potatoes. I avoid these for now except sweet potatoes.

The point is to up your potassium and magnesium intake, which supposedly helps lower BP.

:sick: This sound like the old "low fat" diets. It sucks.

my sis got some wheat protein isolate flour n made some bread and rolls .... they came out gr8
much better than what i've eaten here so far ... will put up some pix as soon as i get them.

cant wait for the wraps and the pizza bases that have real crust and doesn't taste or smell
of flaxseed
 
Friends doctor told her not to do "banting" due to the dangerous fats and crap.........

My word, its amazing how some people are just so stupid.
 
Both are stupid. Like above, imagine the harm and ignorance being done.
