The Banting/LCHF Thread

So how much carb a day is banting? I have been keeping to a 25g limit for my banting.

I am going to make banting gummi bears from scatch. I will report results!

Traditional low carb is anything considered under 150g per day. 25g you in Keto territory ( which is normally the induction phase of banting but weakens off )

Made some Low Carb dough and wrapped Jelapeno and Cheese Grillers

hmmmmm those look awesome!

well the dough is basically: mozarella cheese, cream cheese, 1 egg, and a little almond flour.... so yeah, cheese is good :D

I'm test driving the dough to eventually try make a braai paai using it....

Yah, we've used fathead before ( pizza base ) and a crispy version as tortia chips for guac ( more AVO! ) but I stupidly never thought of sausage rolls and I used to like those. You must try a chicken pot pie with a low carb dough crust, also very very tasty.

Do you put the crust only on top?

Having eaten low carb for something like 2 years now, I'm kinda amazed that under 150g is considered low carb. I mean, when I think of what I need to eat to hit 150g, its a lot of food.

Like, 3 medium sized potatoes is only 120g of carbs.

Lot of the wrong food. Hitting 120g is pretty easy, just look at your average fast food meal, and I don't even mean a upsized\large one. The weird thing is, I pile my plate with my veggies ( roasted, creamed whatever, mainly greens ) so it looks like a seriously large amount of food but it's carb count is still very low and they digest super easy compared to starches. My dinner is about 3/4 veg, 1/4 protein.

Yep. But if you think about what people eat traditionally, you'll easily reach 100g, sometimes with just 1 meal.

Gee 150g seems high. Will you maintain ketosis with that much carb a day? Also what do you mean by " which is normally the induction phase of banting but weakens off "

I know, I guess that is what I am saying. 150g of carbs is dead easy to get with breakfast cereal for breakfast, bread for lunch, and pasta for supper. I just can't believe how difficult it is to reach when eating whole foods.

Ja, but as far as I understand, you are not banting unless you are in ketosis. The whole point is to become fat adapted:whistle:

No, banting != keto. They are two different things. The initial induction ( talking about Tim Noakes banting here ) does involve going down to a ketosis level but then rises it afterwards till I think an avg of like 50-60 carbs per day.

have anyone watched this? interesting watch

everything we already know, but still...

for what reason are you guys banting

At first it started out for weight loss.

Then all the other benefits kept me going.

Lowered blood pressure and cholesterol.
Massive reduction in inflammation. Especially joints.
No more heartburn.
Less bloating.
Better sleep.
More sustained energy.
And it is just more fun eating bacon and cheese than it is eating bread and pasta.

Sure I missed a few that I don't even notice on a daily basis.

It also seems to make you younger..... well thats what everyone says but that might just be the weightloss and healthier living. There are suggestions though that doing a keto level diet releases better aging items in the body.
