The Banting/LCHF Thread

Be careful with brussel sprouts, not as low in carbs as one thinks. Tasty though.

Thanks! According to google I had about 15g just from the B-sprouts... ouch!

but yeah. very tasty

Made this fathead pizza tonight: https://www.wholesomeyum.com/recipes/fathead-pizza-crust-low-carb-keto-gluten-free-nut-free/

Wan't great.. suffered though it. The base was very dense and quite coconutty/dry (although it didn't break apart). Didn't taste much of the toppings... really just the dough. Think I'll try an almond flour recipe next time but I'm not sold on the almond flour texture.

I have only ever made fathead pizza using almond flour, never with coconut flour, and we enjoy it at home. I use this recipe

I also recently tried out the chicken pizza crust - it is NOT pizza but damn was it still delicious - give it a go. I made one with homemade low carb ranch, jalapeños, red onion, mozzarella, bacon bits and rocket. Pic here of my one, and crust recipe here - I just changed toppings to suit us.

Thanks.. will give it a go on pizza friday!

Why so quiet, low-carbers? Are your mouths full of butter?

I made my own mayonnaise. First I tried the hipster mayo from that hipster store in Emmarentia but the artificial sweeteners don't sit well with me.

Anyways, homemade mayo is much cheaper and delicious! I'm eating around half a cup per day and it's full of healthy oils.

I'm lazy and use Hellmann's original at home. What recipe did you use to make yours?

I eat so much mayo that I decided Hellman's was a bad idea because of the soy bean oil. I basically eat mayo on everything - coleslaw, chicken, avocados.

So I used this recipe but ignored the advice about not using only olive oil:

Thanks, I will give that a try at some stage! If I go through half a cup of mayo in a week it is a lot :P

Still plodding along myself, wifes going to test a LC carrot cake recipe this weekend, will see how it goes.

Has We Love Low Carb been discussed in this thread? They make the best lc bread products I have ever had. https://www.facebook.com/WeLoveLowCarb/

Phew, I hope something like that opens up in Joburg. Can't really justify paying them an extra R100 to deliver up here.

On the same theme, Checkers flax-seed pizza bases are becoming harder and harder to find.

Post the recipe - I may have some time to try baking this weekend (although I've never really succeeded at baking, I'm more of a grilled meat chef).

I need to get strict again. Ive been following lchf but Ive been lazy with my macro's so Ive gained about 8kg :(

Want to try the cabbage bread just haven't gotten around to it yet. Also need to make some Mayo but damn normal olive oil gives a bitter after taste.

Easter, time of the year to trek down to Durban. Go to Balito market and buy a ton of banting desserts.

Those are soooo good.
