Generator or Inverter for residential use?

I cannot comment on the King, I have zero experience with it. I have the Multiplus 5000va model, with a CCGX and bluesolar mppt. I'm sure most of them can do this, but you're limited by the transfer switch in the smaller units - mine is 100A, the smaller units are a lot less. We have a 3kVa...

Anyone know where I can get this at a reasonable cost: NPW45-12 its a 12V 45W 8.5A/H lead acid in an RCT UPS (x2 batteries) I was gonna just replace the batteries and use the UPS again but all i'm finding for that battery is R845 each RS-Online. At R1690 i'm pretty sure its just easier to buy...

So have to create a new thread, should we create one thread discussing inverters so as to consolidate all info in one place? Just like what is being done here.

And a lot easier going through one thread for answers/info than going through 10 different threads.
So how about it? Think someone with above average should maybe create it and add some helpful/useful info as a start, like which brands rate from 1-10, short definition of grid-tied, off-grid, hybrid etc.
Im definitely not that guy, all i know is need light, switch to on, want TV, remote to on :)

The problem here is that you can create the thread but as soon as loadshedding comes back the forum would be flooded with multiple threads about loadshedding solutions.

it is actually not that simple. As there are different type of solutions. I would check the existing threads and see if one of them is similar to what you have/want/need. If not, welcome to create another one.

Because there's just too many peasants in this thread, it's like suggesting a BMW G20 3 series in a thread where people are talking about Kwids and Datsun Gos.
 
I've had a cheapie 3KVA 72V UPS ( AEC st2100) powering my office PCs for the last 4 years. It had 6 102 Ah batteries connected in series and it worked 100% for 2.5 hour loadshedding periods.
Its starting to fail now (only lasts an hour) and I'd like to replace either the batteries or both the batteries and UPS.

If I buy 6 of those omnipower 120aH gel/AGM batteries would I need a new UPS to correctly charge them? If so can anyone reccomend one?

Alternatively could I get a 12V 3kVa UPS and connect the batteries in parallel as needed for example?

1st, fixed above.

2nd, 3000va @ 12V = 250 amps. You'll need cables thicker than your schlong to run that :D

Oops. Ok my bad. Typed that out in a hurry. So scrap the 12V UPS idea. Would my current UPS charge the Omni power batteries correctly or would I need a new one?
