The Battery Thread (Solar / Inverter)

Anyone know of good place to buy a basic setup kit. Eg 100w Solar, controller, inverter and battery (optional - can sourceseparate)?

Person lives in an area without any electricity nearby and needs a small setup to charge her laptop and phone.

Thnx.

There are plenty but are usually very expensive for nothing and sometimes you still need to assemble the kit so you never get real value for buying it as a kit.

You are still better off sourcing the things separately, close to R5k just for hinges, handle straps and the cheap charge controller looks like madness to me.

What about something like this?

Buy that and a 100w solar panel. Literally only enough to charge laptop and a phone but separately.

It even has the sunsynk logo on!

Yes thnx. 100% agree.

Example, came across this while searching about...panel only, from Makro online, and build onto that...seems it will be much better value than going kit option...as you say.

That would be so convenient and easiest for her. Thnx. I see kloppers got it for R5k.

Just double check her laptop can use one of the available outputs. Most are DC or USB type outputs.

Its great because minimal loss in DC to AC inversion. Although there is at least 1 AC output.

Does it have an inbuilt solar charge controller and you just connect the panel as it is to be regulated inside?

I'll be replacing the element of the geyser with a 1.5kw. Think that should help with the current problem. And then get a timer to beter manage the power usage.

I'll sommer request the update my self from sunsynk.

i have the a 2 kW element geyser which is after the CT clamp and before the inverter on a 5 kW Sunsynk, so still can utilize solar, when available.
The 1.5 kW element will just take longer to heat up compared to the 2 kW

You are better off moving the geyser to before the inverter.

Change your settings by removing the tick in limit to load and the inverter will then be able to send any excess solar to the geyser is the grid is up. During load shedding the geyser will not work.

Or put the geyser on the aux output then you can still use the geyser during load shedding.

@AchmatK , could never get the AUX load work as advertised. it will always switch for the first time in a 24 hour period when the two conditions are met, but if it switched off due to battery SOC and/or pv, it does not switch on when the two conditions are satisfied again until the next day

I hoped they would have fixed this by now. I'm sure it's just a software configuration that they need to do.

have not tried it in a while, maybe now that load shedding has returned with a vengeance, I should try it again.

Tickety tick, Sunsynk trick.

Agreed. Someone needs to take one for the team and test it, and complain again if it isn't fixed.
