Also guys are saying they are getting 100 to 150 more kms on the 500ppm and that the car pulls better.

I was thinking what would happen if I filled 5 litres of 500ppm next time I full up the tank with 50ppm :unsure:
Would I see any benefits
 
Any diesel experts that want to weigh in on this?

Audi is saying use a 15ppm diesel but here we use 50ppm and when you use 10ppm the feels heavy and doesnt want to move the torque also feels low.
 
There is quiet a following with mixing 2stroke oil with the diesel every few tanks, allegedly has some positive effects

I have heard of these I know guys with trucks do this to lubricate the system and also its protects the cylinder liners as well

In older diesels without a doubt..

In any new diesel motor, I would be very wary of doing that tbh.

Apologies it seems you are correct. Couple of threads on bmwfanatics talks about the lubrication benefits, but also mention more frequent oil changes could be required
 
Seeing as this is the fanboy thread let's try here, recommended oil for a 2009 LCI e90 320d sitting on about 95000km's. Want to do the service this weekend and as the car is just asking for oil, I want do it (and filters) myself.

I'm thinking Top Tec 4200 5W30

I used liquimoly as well but I went for the fully synthetic 5W40 given our hotter climate its the green in colour oil. what does BMW recommend ?

You right about the oil changes - they recommend more frequent oil changes, Oil changes are cheap not very worried about it I wonder if mixing 50ppm with some 500ppm might clean out the fuel pumps and the injectors :unsure:

I ended up going with Liqui Moly Top Tec 4100 5W40 for the climate yes, it has the BMW LL04 approval so should be all good. Not full synthetic but I think a good quality oil.

Previous service my mechanic used Shell 5W40, not sure what kind exactly.

I picked up a bottle of Liqui Moly Pro Line Diesel System Cleaner as well so let's see how that goes. Like I said very low mileage car, problem being very short distance driving for the last ten years.
 
Service done except for the fuel filter, will do that this coming weekend.

Turned out the car actually wanted a brake fluid flush service so did that, but I'm glad I did the other items even though the car wasn't asking for them yet. Tried a hand operated vacuum tool, but it loses vacuum almost immediately so bleeding would work but actually siphoning out lots of fluid takes forever, so the classic second person operating the brake pedal moves the fluid a lot faster.

The car has ridiculously torque, pulling in 6th gear from 100km/h like it's nothing. Hopefully I can buy my ex E91 back one day I miss daily diesel torque

CHeck when you change your fuel filter there maybe requirements to prime the fuel system so it doesnt build up air.

On Audi theres an app on OBDEleven that you run after you change the fuel filter and that will prime the system.

Actually good for your injectors better lubrication
bad for DPF and EGR
and terrible for the oil - can lead to engine destruction if you font change oil in time

But if you had to use 500PPM and no other choice you can - maybe to get out of a dorpie that doesnt have 50ppm

10PPM has the least lubrication - not the best for the system
 
Question, has anyone had their steering rack replaced on their F30 ? If so what were the symptoms/tell tale signs ?
I have the most annoying constant wheel wobble at pretty much any speed and a weird clunking sound coming from the front right at low speeds.
It "feels" as if something is loose/moving around.
The dealership are yet to diagnose the root cause even though they've essentially taken half the car apart thus far. Investigation to continue this week.
Bushings and bearings appear ok, control arms etc seem fine. Shocks passed a shock rebound test. (though I suspect it could be the top shock mount...)
No amount of wheel balancing or rotation left to right/front to rear makes any real difference.
Rims have been checked and are 100% . Alignment seemed in spec too.
Problem is driving (excuse the pun) crazy.
Will see what the dealership find later this week.
