The prices are getting higher and higher and the dealers are coming up with even more creative ways to sell cars to people who can't afford them, I wonder when are we going to hit the ceiling? A Datsun Go or a Kwid will soon be R300k at this rate.

for the first time in 18 yrs im not trading my car in as its reaching the 5 yr mark. prices are just insane... putting cash aside for repairs. getting a worthy replacement will cost a min of 700k...madness....

Crankshaft Pulley had failed. Gonna cost me a sweet R6500 to get it sorted out.... muthertrucker.

Exactly. I am trying to convince myself of the same thing with the Avant I bought. It needed a few rands worth of parts to get going, but even if I have to drop R20k on it, it's still R60k less than the cheapest new car I can get. Plus, a Kwid is a long shot away from an A4 except maybe in fuel consumption, which is something I would rather not discuss here (or ever).

Of course... there wasn't really a question of it being done.. just sucks that I have to scrounge up R6500 that I wasn't planning on spending

Nope, OEM dampener Pulley + bolts is around R6500 for the 320d

the Dampener Pulley from Goldwagen is R3k and an OE belt is R400.

make sure you replace the 4 bolts holding the Pulley with OEM ones (about R200 for 4 from any dealer)

The quote I got from BMW for the part was just over R9500.

suggest you register on BMWfanatics... I had to replace the dampener a few weeks ago as well.

rather easy to get TCG to ship the parts as well.

Aggg the work is done now... regardless... and the effort in my life was 10 minutes of getting it to my mechanic... I don't have the time to fsck around shipping parts around the country and waiting for them to arrive and all that... the vehicle is my daily driver.

I was all stock parts at when sold at 200k.

Ok aircon compressor was weak, but sold as it, only blew cold air on highway speeds

Just shy of 160k...

I have a feeling that the previous owner was a bit of a spirited driver of the vehicle which shortened the lifespan of the part a bit...
