The Bodybuilders Thread: Circuit II

What's up? Knees?
You were a meneer with squats IIRC.
Sucks to know what you're capable of but can't do it.

Hip flexor, I think. It's much better, I could probably squat, but I can still feel the tendon or muscle of whatever when I get up from a chair, so I assume it's not a good idea. :(

Urgh talking about squats, I'm doing leg day today. Started squatting 3 weeks ago and today I'll be aiming for 3 plates 12 reps.
Only did 2 plates 15 to 18 reps for 4 sets the last 2 weeks so I'm counting on making it, just scared of the lower back (took a break from squats for 3 years because of back muscle spasms :erm:)
Don't jinx me with all this knee's giving in talk :(
or wait, I used to squat 3 plates, but I took an arrow to the knee :D (for all the Skyrim fans)

3 plates? 3 x 20kg plates... per side? 60kg+60kg+20kg bar = 140kg?

3 plates? as in 20kg a plate? That's 140kg for 12 reps. Strong man!

I sure hope you are getting good depth on those squats.

See far too many people at the gym load the bar up with lots of weight and then do quater or less squats.

For me it's below parallel or the rep doesn't count.

100% agreed. I focus on that especially. I actually go till my calve touches my hamstring halfway, which is below 90 degrees for me yes

Not everybody is able to go below parallel.

Good video on how proportions affect squatting. Especially depth.

Of course most people have standard proportions and this video is not to be used as an excuse for not getting good range of motion. But it is still informative. Part 2 is also good and goes into foot stance as well.

This is awesome! Thanks for the vid. Sending to a colleague of mine as he has longer upper legs so he tends to put a lot of force on the knees...

I do barbell hack squats on my first leg routine of the week. Replaced with front squats on second routine of week.

Nothing gets those quads burning quite like the hack squat.

And they're not as heavy on the tendons which is good. Hack squats are awesome... like anything when done properly. The trouble many have is that it's all about the numbers on the plates instead of your own personal gains / strength goals. You can do a heck of a lot with less weight if you do it all properly... form, explosive movements, supersets, giants, etc.
No need to risk injury to get a good workout. It doesn't make for eye popping stares from anyone else, but then is that what you're there for?

Hack squats and my knees are not friends.

That and leg press - my left knee screams at me if I do those.

It doesn't make for eye popping stares from anyone else....... ?

Which is why I love working out alone in my garage.

I don't have anything to prove or show off to anyone.

Of course it has it's downfalls too. Like I can't push my limits too much because I have no spotter available. And a partner might motivate you more on some days.

But then again. That is where discipline trumps motivation for me.

Marathon.... Not sprint!
