The Bodybuilders Thread: Circuit II

I know I cant bulk on normal tastic rice, after day 4 I hate it. Basmati all the way.

Rice is one of my main carb sources during both bulking and cutting. White basmati is my choice based on taste and ease of cooking (15 mins in my Sistema microwave rice cooker).

What more do you want to know?

But that is only because of preference though right? Not like Basmati is better or anything? Because i honestly prefer the taste of Tastic over basmati.

  • So what i want to know is, how often do you eat the rice and when? (I have mine after gym, about 10-15 minutes after i have my shake)
  • How much is too much?
  • Can it cause belly fat faster than usual eating it twice a day? Or just too often?
  • Have you noticed the difference in bulking with rice and without rice? (I know this question seems vague and silly, but let me know if i must explain the question further?)

I only recently started with Rice in my bulking diet, and honestly, im noticing the difference (even those close to me notice the difference).

My bulk in a whole is going quicker than i expected, i went from 78 kilos to 81 kilos, in just over 2 weeks, but my concern is that the muscle/fat ratio is 1:1 and not as it was before the rice.

So, basically before i started eating as much rice, i was bulking slower, which was about .5 kilos a week, and now jumping to nearly a kilo a week, it could end up being a bit detrimental when i start cutting in a couple months time, which means my cut is going to have be extreme.

I think first you need to learn a bit more about calories and macros. Whether you're getting your carbs from rice, potatoes, pasta, cous cous, 500 rice cakes, oats etc. makes no real difference in the large scheme of things.

Give us your full diet break down, every meal with weights and volumes of all foods.

Having 3 cups of cooked rice in one meal 10 minutes after training or 1 cup of rice 3 times per day makes no difference, you're still eating 3 cups of rice in the day.

Also 3kg in 2 weeks is mostly water and a bit of fat.

The meals were around 1,200 calories (5000kj) per day. That is a crash diet for anyone imo. It was soul destroying. Would rather make the time and make proper food.
Oh ok then I should be OK, i plan on only replacing my dinner with Fitchef, other than that I don't plan on changing my diet.

I have knees issues, so i have been steering clear of squats and other leg work :/
What knee issues do you have?

Why does everyone seem to have knee issues? I squat 140+ kg, my knees click and creak and are often sore during my leg sessions. I man up and get on with it. I wrap my knees from 3 plates per side and up on squats and around 8-9 plates and up on leg press. It's just part of the game. If I had to worry about every little niggle I'd never make any gains.

So @StrontiumDog please for god's sake don't "man up and get on with it" if you have medical conditions on your knees!
Have them checked out at least as anyone with common sense would and get some expert advice before you do

If some has a diagnosed medical condition then sure, don't squat. But it amazes me that every second weekend warrior in the gym sipping their free Kauai smoothie who gyms 3 times a week has knee issues.

errebody has knee issues on leg day:whistle:

You can substitute conventional squads with bulgarian squats and backward lunges. There are other ways to train legs, too, without high impact on the knees. You just have to google them and use proper form when doing them.

Check out Athlean-X on youtube. He also has knees issues and shows substitute exercises for squads on his videos.

I count my calories really only when i cut, but with the bulk, not so much, i do however try and hit my macros.

So, i've started the strong lifts 5x5 a couple months ago, and this is where i am (My body weight as of this morning is 81.9)

BP: 77.5
SQ: 85
OHP: 47.5
DL: 105
BRow: 72.5

(I had to deload 20% after i returned to 5x5's when the fast (Ramadaan) ended, and i am now back to my weights as before i started fasting)

My food breakdown daily:

Breakfast(7:30): 1 Cup of Oats with 4 table spoons Future life (High Protein), with Half a teaspoon sugar and teaspoon butter, and 50mls full cream milk and 1 cup of coffee (no sugar.)

Before gym(9:30): 1 Apple, 1 Banana and HCL Creatine

Immediately after gym(11:00): 3D Nutrition Whey Protein (1 Scoop) 23g protein

Post Gym Snack(11:30): 1 Cup boiled rice (Tastic) with 3 boiled eggs or 1 Cup rice, with 3 eggs scrambled in the rice.

Lunch(13:30): 1 Tin Tuna, 4 Slices whole wheat bread, Mayo for the tuna and a baked potato.

Afternoon snack(15:30): Pack of Mixed Tree Nuts (Woolworths pre packs) or Avo on Whole wheat and Orange or Naartjie)

Supper: Either Rice, Potato or Pasta with a Protein and Vegetables.

Before i sleep snake(20:30) 30-40grams Dry Wors biltong.

If i did not hit my protein goals, i will have a Whey protein shake before i sleep

This is on average my daily meals, weekends differs a bit with some takeaways and junk on a Saturday.

And Approx 3 liters of water a day.

:erm:
so you're saying
"Why does everyone seem to have knee issues? I don't?"

Too much impact on my knees in earlier years from basketball and volleyball not helped by the fact that my one leg is slightly longer hence my right knee bothers me more than the left.

Check Athlean-X on YouTube. Jeff is arguably the most informative youtuber out there when it comes to the technical side of how to train a muscle correct. Best is the info is for free and he explains a lot. Just search on his channel for "knee" he has done a few of those and alternative excercises

All these Roid-Attie's with their own training channels don't mean ***** imo because on the juice, just training and dieting correct they'll obviously see results, and think they know it all, coz you know, it's "all them"..

they'll obviously see results
lol. Isn't this all that really matter? Who cares if you have a PhD or know exactly how muscle fibers synthesize amino acids and grow, if you're making gains and getting the results you're after then that's all that matters really imo.

Always amuses me how natty weekend warriors slag off enhanced lifters and make it sound like they just sit on the couch and pop dbols like smarties and that's all that it takes.

Huh? it is actually exactly about how to get those results, so the more knowledgeable the better because StrontiumDog is actually indicating he has a problem with his knees, and by his post I'm assuming looking for exercises around that. So no, in the context it wouldn't be a good thing to follow these roid-apie's coz it's not just about results, it's about results around a specific injury/issue.

Why do you call them roid-apies?

You BBers are funny sometimes. Natty weekend warriors vs enhanced lifters? What is an enhanced lifter? I thought you were all lifters?

Congrats on the PB, rayven_king.

Joka69, why bulk specifically with rice? As long as you hit your macros, I would just add a big variety to my diet. Your diet looks pretty good though if your portions are hitting your target macros.

Let us know how it goes after a few weeks. Interested to hear what you think about the meals. I am going to give http://www.delishnutrish.co.za/#home a shot for my lunch and dinners during the week. If someone would ever come back to me that is.
