I agree, but to be accurate, I was ripping the stability ball, not him.

I apologize, no idea why I am like this recently :(

It's that excess testo trying to escape
Go push out 6 sets of bench before you post in future!
:D

Haha not a bad idea. I do have a heavy set waiting for me tomorrow, and really scared because of shoulder pain yesterday morning, and the fact that it is going to pretty damn heavy.

Well, my advice - play it by ear - do one warmup set of 15 reps lighter weight and see how it feels. Always listen to your body. You'll gain more by doing a half a workout and avoiding further injury - my 5c.

I am the only person in my gym that deadlifts.

I've quit Virgin Active in favour of continuing with going to my varsity gym, I can throw weights around, deadlift heavy, and squat heavy and nobody cares. I used to go to VA in Gardens and I've been asked more than 5 times to put the weights down slowly so that they dont make a noise, It puts a damper on your workout when you wanna get jacked brah.

On the subject of stability balls. :/ . I'm sure they have some sort of relevance in training for sport and functional strength, however I am highly sceptical about the benefits and people spend too much time talking about it and trying to prove its worth for me to care. There are well-proven scientifically sound and backed alternatives which I'll stick to.

Nothing personal mate. I just try to incorporate a few inner core exercises into my other training days because I don't like doing stomach. Front squats, shoulder press / dumbbell press on the ball. That kinda stuff. It is usually my last exercise after I have done my heavy lifting.

Not trying to convince anyone of anything, merely sharing what I feel works for me. I can't stand when people do half a pull up, then put wrist straps on for deadlift because their grip is too weak to hold the weight. That kind of strength isn't functional in daily life.

Oh yeah had that happen to me a few times when i was learning to squat/deadlift, back doesn't stay arched, it's a weird feeling. If you get to 12% you'll probably see your abs clearly, I am at 11% and all my abs are visible, although I am far from ripped :P

I heard if people have knee problems they are better off doing box or hack squats, but I am not an expert in that department.

So are you losing weight and getting stronger? If so that is very impressive :)
Well, i lost the kilo by just eating stricter... i am not calorie counting and would guess I must be at a deficit when i lost a bit like that.

Right now I am making gains on squats, deadlift and bench press because up until a few weeks ago I hadn't ever done squats, I steered clear of bench press (i did dumbbell presses) and I only started deadlifts around Dec 2012 IIRC. So i am far from plateauing (i think) and if i do start to stall then I must just up my calories I suppose.

A friend of mine is a chef and he has almost completed a month of Paleo eating and has lost a few KG. Is offering to provide me a Paleo meals service (at a fee :) ) and I reckon I will give it a bash for a month.

We have two squat racks at VA Kenilworth and I find I have to pounce on it sometimes because half the time it is busy (well when i go during peak). I would say only half the dudes do squats down to parallel or below. The rest do those silly half squats with really heavy weights, obviously too heavy if they can't go low with the weight? :p

That's fukking retarded, it's a deadlift, that's just the noise the plates make when they touch the floor. It's not like you're going 'HULK SMASH' and dropping that chite from the top of your rep.

Ohh yes of course, yeah even eating consciously healthier will make a difference. I did not calorie count for the longest of time, all I counted was protein :P

And even when I did start counting calories it was so boring omg. I been calorie counting for 25 days now and what I've started to do is eat everything in the same amount so i don't have to calculate the calories every time. For example regardless of what cereal I eat I'll add 220ml milk. So I can just copy paste yesterdays amount.

Same here at Plattekloof, squat racks are always being used (not for squats though, always heavy shrugs or OHP)

So I take an Olympic BB from the bench or incline press and just look for an open space >.<

You get guys that literally drop the weights from standing, or think its some sort of race, and literally push the weight to the floor, with as little as a 100kg, it's damn annoying as all it's doing is making a noise.

VA Durbanville and Tygervalley no one has ever complained about me making a noise on deadlifts. Personally I think I make more of a noise when I do pendlay rows, because I really pull the weight up with force, and thus it ends up hitting my chest quite hard, and then some noise when lowering it.

if you are one of those bone heads who drop weights for attention then go eff yourself, or if you grunt like an idiot as well, everyone makes a noise when lifting very heavy but please if you sound like a female tennis player benching a WHOLE 60kg then you have a problem bru

I think some people do it because the weight is really heavy, and others because they seek attention ;P

if it is so heavy you couldn't put it down properly then u are lifting too heavy, also if you are dropping 30kg dumbells and it is too heavy then shame dude...

Do any of the VA guys have issues with no fitness consultants on the floor? I have always been able to ask for a spot , at least on my last set, but now after I changed gyms, there is nobody on the floor to help during the day.

Its VA dependant... I always dee staff on the Table View weights floor, and VERY seldom at Century City

Sooo I finally managed to get my 1RM PR on Bench to 100kg today. Very happy with myself, seeing as my bw is only ~72kg.

During the last couple of weeks, I have to admit, I could never ask for a spot, there rarely any VA gym staff around the floors when I am at the gym, although they are there from time to time, usually I only see them showing the ropes around for the new members that join.

As for people making a noise above the normal threshold, only happened once so far for me at VA durbanville, and as I was about to walk over and tell the guy it really is too load, it was very obvious most people around didn't like him throwing down the weight from over his head after doing a clean and press, anyways as I was about to walk over, a few other big guys decided to express their dislike of it, and the fella making a noise quickly stopped.
