Reached a new PB on the squat:

8 reps with 60kg
8 reps with 60kg
6 reps with 70kg
6 reps with 75kg
6 reps with 80kg

So I'm squatting over my body weight, then my pants tore :)
I had dumbbells and plates lying all over the floor, had to wait about 1min after my last set before I could safely walk through everything with falling on my ass.

Then did some leg raises but was a goner by then.
Finished with some wide stance goblet squats that burned like hell.

I have 3 pairs of 'squatting' shorts, they are 1 size too big for me, to allow for dat dere deep squats with no shameful tears :D

Yeh.. I have an XXL pair for squats :p

Last year in winter I was gyming in track suit pants, with my wife as my partner... my tracksuit split in the first few sets of squats... I kept on and finished my daily program, much to the horror of my wife. (and probably a few others at VA)

Not having internet for 11 days meant I could not track my calories, I use an online spreadsheet.

What website do you use to count calories?

Also, is there a decent app that can count calories? Looking for iPhone.

I haven't been counting calories at all. I am still bulking and I'm still gaining. I will hit my goal bulking weight soon though and then it's cutting time, where I will definitely have to start counting.

Gracias!

Google documents

basically an excel spreadsheet.

Took a friend to the gym for his first time today.

He was awkward as fuk, but it feelsgoodman to teach him.

Got a lot to learn though and dear god, I have to clean up his diet.

I stopped using creatine about a week or two ago. With it being winter and so cold lately I've been struggling to drink enough water so I thought rather not chance it... Will try and resume at a later stage as right now my exercise regime is not purely weight training so hard to tell if my strength was impacted with or without it :(.

Stronglifts 5x5 has taken back seat but on the resistance cardio front at least I'm getting fairly fit now.

Well the reverse grip bench press failed hard lol.

That being said, this marks week 3/4 of my bench press stall.

I'm grasping at straws, I tried some crazy crap today, all in hopes of stimulating more growth :\

I'll up my caloric intake as well just to be sure it's not that which is the limiting factor.

Check out myfitnesspal (myfitnesspal.com for the web interface)

It's pretty easy to use once you've set everything up.

I watched this clip on deadlifts earlier on, as well as the one they did on bench press. Amazing the quality of youtube coaching one can find on the interwebs if one is so inclined. And damn these T-nation guys are big and fairly ripped looking!!

It is a very awkward exercise, try with dumbbells rather I find them easier on the wrists.

Bought myself some straps, took about 5min to get the right way of using them but they do make a difference, I went to 180kg x 2 reps using them, I reckon I could go further but form starts to fail.

Seem to have picked up weight as well, knocking on 78kg, too many carbs in my diet now as wife loves her pasta and bakes.

The younger guys are so lucky at what's available to them these days in terms of internet access to things like this.
Back in the day I never really had cash to spend on magazines and books, my first bodybuilding book was Arnolds Encyclopedia of Modern Bodybuilding that I bought in 2005 that steered me in the right direction but diet always alluded me.

Before that friends and I just tried to lift the gym and eat everything in sight, we could only afford the "Mass" builders and such which screwed a couple of guys over and made them fat, they are still fat to this day since life and family in general has taken over from gym time.

I have only really started seeing results in the last year after I changed my diet and even keeping that flowing correctly is tough.
My biggest supplier of information has been Muscle & Fitness and MuscleMag International magazines, just hard core gymming and non of the Men's Health flavor of the month.

I agree, I wish I was younger again as well. Knowing what I know now, I would own it back in the early 20s.

Either way, T-Nation has some amazing articles.

Arnolds encyclopedia is still one of the top books a person a get dude. 100% solid foundational training.

All this other *** is for when plateaus are reached. The above book is basically all a dude needs to get as big as a house. Look at Arnold himself :)

Then again, the new exercises add awesomeness to the workouts

I read an article a while back, they interviewed Arnold regarding his and Sly Stallone on their workouts getting ready for Expendables 2, Arnold just replied he did what he has always done since he was 16 just with much lighter weight, good old compound and volume and that Sly always tried the latest and greatest and even had a trainer Gunnar Peterson.

Watched some youtube videos on him training, just wasn't for me, looked like some cross fit type stuff.

I want to try and use volume one week and then go heavy with short reps the next, then back to volume, any tips, maybe I should only go heavy once a month to allow my immune system to recover?

I know there's a program that works in three weeks cycles.
1.) Heavy weight/low rep (1-5)
2.) Medium weight/medium rep (6-12)
3.) Light weight/ high rep (12-20)

You can either do it for six weeks, then one week off, or depending on how advanced you are, three weeks one week off.

Just can't recall the programs name, but its easy enough to make your own.

Shot, that sounds like something I can do, chest today so going for heavy and low rep.

Yoh, at about 3400 calories yesterday and I still feel full from it... Without calorie dense foods such as Nutella, Oreo McFlurries I could never do this on a frequent basis.

Going for 50kg OHP today for 5 reps with GOOD form.
