Hi Guys I've been reading up a lot lately regarding exercise etc. and it seems that what you eat is the most important part of the whole getting lean/fit program. So I'm currently using myfitnesspal to track my calorie intake with around 6 cardio sessions a week (cycling, running, swimming) and some push and pull exercises (pull ups, push ups etc) in between.

Once I get to around 10 - 12% body fat I will be able to see what muscles need work and then work on those.

Do you think this is a good plan?

It's a good plan and I'm glad to see people are shifting away from the marketing that has been shoved down our throats.

It depends on your goals, if you are mainly interested in only losing weight and getting fit, then yes that's a good plan (as good as any). However don't expect to build muscle and get strong without adequate lifting.

Thanks

I would like to build muscle but I will break it down in 2 phases. Phase 1 fat loss/fitness then phase 2 build muscle.

Back to work again, went all out on the holiday food and 5 cases of beer, didn't gain any weight at all, exercise I got was from running around and carrying a 3yr old boy.
Got a mooi tan though.

Monday - Bench press day so it's gonna hurt come tuesday.
New diet is now in effect, meat and veg only with a couple potatoes and basmati rice thrown in, I reckon I was 2 months short of achieving a full on six pack.
Theres nothing worse than that little pinch of belly fat to spoil your look.

Hmm, my eating routine has generally always been sporadic, but it's not something I've deliberately taken note of. I'll actually try to eat a fuarkload next time before gym.

Was just a thought. I actually don't eat before gym. Just a preworkout. Gives me a headstart on my overall daily calorie intake.

Benching strength is a lot about technique. Also, imo 140 is a big jump from 100 for 8 reps. When I got to doing 100 for 8 reps I couldn't do 1 rep of 130 with no spot. With a touch of assistance at the bottom of the eccentric I could get a rep but that doesn't really count. When I eventually got up to 110 for 10 reps, then I could get 140 for 2 but that was at 83KG at about 13% bf. I'm leaner now and that always comes with losing strength (for me at least) so max out again at 130 for a few. Losing strength really makes cutting tough. Sucks going to gym and being weaker even though you look better.

not just your opinion b, good luck finding a table that will give 150k 1rm from 8x100.

so your experience is about on the dot ;)

Heh xD

Got a question for you guys, is it normal to be losing strength already? It's only 5 days into my cut.

What's weird though is my Bench went down by 5kg's, but my incline went up by 2.5kg.

Cutting sucks though lol :d

Son enjoy your heavy benchpress while you can because if you see this cut through you'll be benching hmmm what did you start on again :p

careful you don't choke speaking with such a full mouth! even if it is just full of whey and water ;)

Lol no man, just eat properly and work out consistently and you'll get where you want to be. This diet cycling business is not necessary if you aren't a pro bber. You have to be patient, good bodies don't happen overnight.

What about a fat guy with big titties?

now you're just turning me on

you guys think it's possible to drop 1kg per week?

edit: being quite lean already, it's probably not possible. anyway im on a mission to see how much weight I can lose until the 29th of January. Weighted myself @ 82.5kg on January the 2nd.

I think you should be able to. There is a show on Discovery called Naked and Afraid where the people give life in the bush for 21 days. Some of them lose over 7KGs in the 3 weeks.

Thats muscle loss as well I would imagine. Nobody on here wants to lose muscle :p

Quite possible to lose 1kg per week of pure fat while still retaining and adding lean mass. Your diet and training will have to be spot on though.

Got my before pic on the 1st of Jan. EliteOP inspired me to see what I can do in 12 weeks, so will post up my after on the 1st of April.

Happy lifting to all for 2014.

I was 6ft 91kg. I was reasonably lean, benching sets of 85 and bicep curls with 40-45kg max. I did about 2 months of very strict diet and got down to 79.95kg. I couldn't believe my eyes. Every day I stood on the scale, it just kept dropping. Eventually I was so impressed with my progress that I stopped craving bad food altogether. I had a McFlurry at Christmas and have lost the plot in recent weeks, but I haven't had McDonalds in over 6 months. Now I'm back on track for 2014 and have only gained about 1.5 kg over Xmas.

So yes. It is very possible. I did lots of bench press, pullups and cardio whilst on diet to try and maintain my strength, which I did. So now I can bench in excess of my body weight for the first time ever and do sets of weighted wide-grip pullups. Very happy.

Good luck. In my experience, absolutely no compromise in diet is key to losing fat quickly, and having a deadline is the key to stay motivated. I never want to weigh 90 again. Ever.

Also depends if your goal is to sustain that weight loss ;)

You can do wild water loss routines like boxers and fighters use for weigh-ins. I once read a book called "Bigger, smaller, bigger", sort of a journal by a guy who gains about 9kg mass in a month, took about the same amount off in FIVE DAYS, regained it the next day.
