I get such damn shin splints, I'm still bloody sore. And I didn't even push it, 30min/5km

Going to see sports science institute.

And they will probably tell you that it's overpronation and a decent running shoe and possibly compression gear will over time sort it out. I know of two runners who suffered from shin splints and after a full assessment (they are based in the US), they found that the shin splints were caused by a weak core and after 6 weeks of core exercises both had absolutely no pain.

You probably running pronation, a proper pair of running shoes like the Asics GT range may help.

Went to a foot specialist a while back (another issue with the bridge of my foot) - he said neutral, had to walk/run on a computerised platform - same from a running shoe store (a proper one, not the mass sales ones).

Just changed over from Saucony shoe recommended by the running store to Asics Lyte 33 - feels better, but still get bloody shin splints.

I'll see what sports science institute says - doubt its core with all the gym I do do - I used to have an entire day dedicated to core work.

Bare in mind, this is also on a treadmill, so not as hard as a road.

I am no expert. I have been told by my gym buddy that if you are not sore and stiff afterwards, then you are doing it wrong. What you need to do is basically cause little tears and damage to your muscles. When your body then repair this damage by creating new muscle tissue, this is how you grow your muscle. This is also why protein is so important when you train, because your body needs this to do the repairs. Also why you drink your protein shake after your workout. This is when your body needs it most.

Your gym buddy most probably trains on and off a lot, if you train without breaks for a long time (obviously a week break every 3 to 4 months does not count as a break) you're most probably NEVER going to be as sore again as you were those first couple of weeks when you just started out... So no, don't judge your progress and if you put enough "effort" into you workout and how sore and stiff you are afterwards, if anything, an intermediate lifter with a couple of years of training still getting stiff and sore the way described, would by most be seen as over training a bit

Yip, I overtrain on purpose, only way I'm seeing results I want, a day later ofter all my workouts I'm sore BUT since I adopted my new methods I have added 2kg somewhere along the lines, I would say my chest, back and rear delts are starting to pop and show now even without a tan.
BUT it's open to injury thats the only thing I'm afraid of but my body at the moment only responds to over training.
I have the next 9 days off so hopping to heal up nicely.

Gents, any truth to this?

High-Protein Diets and Hair Loss
If the high-protein diet provides adequate and balanced nutrition, there may be little-to-no risk of hair loss. However, if the diet severely restricts carbohydrates and calories, the resulting deficiencies could result in a condition known as telogen effluvium. Per the American Osteopathic College of Dermatology, telogen effluvium occurs when the body cannot support hair production. As a result, an abnormally high percent of the hair goes into the resting phase and the phase occurs earlier, and longer, than usual. When the hair begins growing again, all of the resting hairs fall out, resulting in possible bald patches.

Does anyone here know of strength training based gyms in Pretoria?
Powerlifting bars, nice power rack, fractional plates and most importantly olympic benches and allows chalk use?

The smallest plates at my gym is 2.5kgs which on the bench press is just a tiny bit too big of a jump at times, and the shallow benches suck for stability.
I have good form although I'm always working on getting it even better. After I learnt powerlifting form last year I progressed much better and then I started going a lot heavier this year thanks to moving to the power rack and having the safety bars.
I still feel it's not progressing as well as it should because no matter how tight I make my back, squeeze my glutes and dig my feet into the ground, on those shallow benches my shoulder blades are just a touch too far over the sides so it slides me around when I try to be explosive on the concentric portion with heavy weights :(
I always finish my 5x5 feeling like I wasted a lot of energy on trying to stabilize myself instead of being able to purely focus on pushing the weight. My focus is ALWAYS broken by the instability I feel.
It's even MUCH worse with dumbbells.

this week started doing some fst-7 (well a close variation) at the end my workout, and for the first time in a long time (apart from where I was off gym for week or 2 and then returned) my muscles were stiff the next day. this apparently might add some muscle definition, and the pump is amazing - doubt it will make me any stronger though.

also been using cipla 3d pump for about 2 weeks, not sure it's the best pre-workout for energy (for me at least) but you get a pretty decent pump

Can anyone recommend awesome tasting nutritech whey flavours? I would like to try it with water only. At the moment I am using ON Gold Standard Chocolate Malt and BSN Syntha 6 Peanut Butter Chocolate. Both taste very nice considering the low carbs and I wouldn't want to waste a tub of nutritech.

I am using Banana Nutritech, got a 5kg bag for R600 and it tastes as good as ON and is also "low carb" it's fantastic.

Thanks, Will give the banana a bash. Might even throw in some milk for a treat. Sigh.

Vanilla has come a long way in recent years. Getting through some *COUGH*USN*COUGH* IGF Vanilla Ice cream flavour at the moment and it isn't bad. Quite thick though

So decided to complete the supplements package as suggested here. Creatine, Whey Protein and Glutamine. (Only did the Creatine and Whey up till now)

Damn Glutamine tastes nasty! Will definitely be mixing it with my post workout protein shake from now on.
