Chuck Taylors are, apparently, the best shoes for weightlifting. They have flat soles made of hard rubber, which don't "absorb" the weight you're lifting/squatting. Anything with gel/shox/springs(!) apparently can do more harm than good (actually unbalance you, which can lead to injuries). They're excellent for running, sure, but for a body movement where your feet need to remain planted (squat, deadlift, overhead press), you need flat shoes.
