The Droid TV thread

Most of my media players (Merlin USB TV, Egreat R6A-II, Measy A1SD, DroidTV MX, DroidTV MXIII) need the remote to be pointed quite accurately at the base unit to operate them reliably. The range is usually around 2~3m at the most. The base unit usually needs to be at a similar height to the remote. I bought my Rii mini keyboard to use on the Egreat R6A-II as it was becoming very frustrating to use the standard remote to select characters on the screen.

I only briefly tested the standard remote on my MXIII at very close range and switched back to my air mouse immediately. An RF remote such as an air mouse has a 10m range and no line of sight requirements. You are not going to get the proper experience using the MXIII with the standard remote. The standard remote that comes with the MXIII is identical to those that come with many other models such as the Tronsmart S89, Probox 2 Ex, MXQ S85 and many others.

The IR sensor seems to be mounted in a steel enclosure in the front of the unit from these closeup pictures.

That's the thing yosh , it doesn't have that 2-3m leeway. I will test when I go there again.

I am familiar with the general clunkiness of these bundled remotes, but this one doesnt work at all unless you point in exact direction of the receiver, a few degrees out and nothing registers. My question is if this is normal, because as it is the device is unusable with the bundled remote?
Sorry if this is a silly question (I don't have an MXIII), but is it possible that the IR sensor on the box is not facing the front? On my Android box you can't see where the sensor is.

No idea, like I said I recommended the device to my cousin. I loaded the refocus big skin and it's working quite well, with slight bit of lag when compared to my Hp microserver which is understandable. Nice clean and minimal skin though if anyone is interested. I told him to get the air mouse at the same time, but he didn't listen so he will get it soon though.

Anyone else using the IPTV addon?
Just testing now... looks promising

Has a really slick epg and a bunch of channels with PVR
Only trouble I'm having is figuring out if it will PVR to my external drive on the droid Tv XBMC.

@Arietans: Looks excellent! Will try it out this evening.

@rodga: If you look carefully at the remote you will see that it has a 3mm IR LED protruding a few mm from the front of the unit. Most remotes use 5mm LEDs to improve the range. If you have a wireless desktop mouse you should be able to get a better idea of how much easier it will be to use the unit with an air mouse. You can use a cell phone camera to compare the output from the remote against one with a better range. You should be able to see a purple haze around the IR LED in the viewfinder when the remote is activated (point the IR LED straight at the camera).

I would also suggest loading Spotify, VEVO, free HULU (Ver 2.14 or 2.15 if he isn't already using the paid service) apps from the Play Store and also testing the streaming performance from www.usdrama.net using the stock browser (choose non-flash enabled player) while you are there if he wants to get the most out of the unit.

Paste any Play Store link to download georestricted apps such as VEVO, Hulu etc.

So far IPTV is my absolute fav live tv repo. Very easy to use and awesome TV guide! Id love to hear your take Yotch.

Hi iru

If you referring to the coloured MediaBox launcher, it's a known "sluggish" issue which has been addressed in the more recent version

Why am I not including the latest version with the box? The music category has been removed and replaced with a memory utility, and there is an annoying weather infobox at the top of the launcher. There is also a text colour issue on some of the child items

As soon as v2 of the new update is released, I'll let everyone know :)

Yes i am referring to it. Will wait for V2 in that case. Thanks

Hi Guys...
I have added IPTV as shown in the video posted by @Arietans (Thanks for the vid).

I have also created a new menu item called Live TV for it in Aeon Nox. Now my question is that how do i go about adding sub-menu to it "History Channel" , "Discovery" Etc? I want to add same kind of menu for SportsDevil ( Cricket, Football etc).

Can anyone point me in right direction?

Thanks

@Arietans: Unfortunately many of the streams that I want to watch freeze every 10s or so but my line is not performing well at the moment. Hopefully things will improve this week.

@iru786: This is the m3u playlist that XBMC is downloading. Maybe you could edit it and store different versions of it locally (News, Sport etc.). I am not sure how you can add more than one m3u file in the add-on though.

Does the MXII support Wake ON LAN?

I can only power it on via the remote. Would like to power it on with Yatse or even a WOL app as well though.

Add those channels as favourites, then go to AEON NOX customization and add the favourites as sub menus under "Live TV" category

Thanks for that... Also there are groups in LiveTV for UK , US etc. Is it somehow possible to show this groups under live TV submenu so that you can open particular group of channels directly?

Great idea! Has anybody told Icemanbfrc yet :)
