You can try HDCabling - just call first. The cable is 3m though which is a bit long.

If you have a soldering iron you could make something up using a few connectors. Some of the component suppliers will do it for you for a fee.

hey yotch would appreciate your help man.

After struggling with my HDD not powering up, I bought a Seagate 2TB HDD on Sunday.
The same problem persisted- the droid struggles to power it up.
I then bought the cable you advised from Avsupply . Got it today, tried plugging both usb into the Droid but it still doesn't power up the HDD.
I then tried to use one end of the cable into a usb wall plug and the other into the droid as J suggested but that didn't work either.
Please help.

@silkman: Which firmware are you running? Are you using a USB 2.0 or 3 Y-cable? I assume that the drive is working with both plugs on the Y-cable connected to USB 2.0 ports on your PC (just confirm that the new cable does work with the drive).

What is the current rating of the USB wall plug? Anything around 1A should be enough since the Droid can also supply a bit extra if necessary. Make sure that the USB plug on the main cable goes to the DroidTV and the other USB plug goes to the power pack just in case the data wires are missing from the second USB plug.

Does the hard drive make a ticking sound when it tries to power up? Take a look at the first review regarding power problems with this drive.

One customer claims to have connected 4 WD 2TB 3.5" drives simultaneously to his G-Box Midnight MX2 so the size should be fine.

Where did you purchase the drive? Do you think it will be possible to return it as I am starting to think that this particular model might not work with the DroidTV?

Maybe somebody else has some better suggestions?

I'm not sure what firmware is on the Droid- I just use it stock. Yes the plug is fine.
The USB wall plug is a Samsung phone charger- don't know the rating sorry.
The drive powers up and then goes off.

It's definitely not the drive cos the only reason I bought this drive was cos my other HDD (Adata 500GB) was doing the exact same thing.
both drives with the Y cable and other cables do the same thing on the Droid and both drives and all cables work fine on pc/laptop.
:(

HI chaps

I have an old CRT in my bedroom and need a device that runs XBMC to stream from my XBMC server in my lounge.

The trick is that I need AV out (which this has) but what about audio. My CRT doesnt have SPDIF.

Regards

If you have AV, why would you need SPDIF?

My point is that the device has SPDIF out but my TV doesnt have an input - only analogue.

Is the AV out video and audio or video only?
By AV I assume RCA cables? Probably 2 or 3, the yellow cable carries video, the red and white carry audio.

I'm not sure - I dont have the device yet. Was thinking of getting a Droid TV. I know that 3 segments is video+stereo audio.

Will do some more research.

Hi getafix33,

The DroidTV MXIII comes with an AV cable for SD video and stereo audio. If your CRT TV has a Composite AV connection with white and red RCA inputs, the MXIII will work fine

This might not be the most unbiased thread to post this but it will be probably the best to get a decent answer from.
I am torn between Roku and the latest DroidTv.

I am leaning towards DroidTv because it can do XBMC which is what i currently have running on my ATV. But I need Netflix and Hulu+ as well. I like Roku for the gyro remote, so the kids can play simple andriod games to amuse themselves. Droid with the special remote makes it almost 500 bux more expensive than Roku. Is it worth the dosh?

If you have subscriptions to Netflix and Hulu I'd say go with the Roku since the Netflix android app only does SD. However if you're not to worried about piracy there are more than enough XBMC/Kodi add ons to get all the content and more that you could get with Netflix and Hulu.
