The Droid TV thread

So much of pages to read through, so just easier to ask here.

My current setup is:
- a PC downstairs connected to the TV which I use for movies, series (all through Plex Media Server) and Netflix via browser, connected via WiFi
- an AverMedia media player upstairs (master bedroom), hard wired in, can access Plex shares, but has no Netflix app

I want to:
- move the media server PC upstairs into the study, therefore need a media player downstairs connected to the TV (it's a smart TV, but the sharing doesn't work so great and region locked so can't get Netflix on it)
- get rid of the AverMedia player, and have a media player upstairs, wireless that I can access the media server PC and use Netflix.

The DroidTV's look pretty cool. Can I do all of this on a Droid Junior?
It needs to be wireless, and I need to able to Plex, Netflix and YouTube.

Hi d4zza,

The MXQ is more than capable, your only potential issue is wireless connectivity, as there is no external antenna. How far away from your router will the MXQ be, and do you plan on only streaming SD content?

Thanks

For the downstairs, it might be quite a distance, although I have bought myself a commercial AP, the Ubiquiti UAP-LR which has a 180m range. Upstairs, it will be about 5m, I may even hard wire it.

My series are SD, movies are 720p and I would prefer if my Netflix and Youtube streamed in HD. I will be going for a 10mbps line as well.

Netflix HD not possible (yet) but Youtube HD works fine. If your local content is 720p, it's better to cable the box

How do I add Indian channels?

@Awesum: If you are looking for Indian movies you can try the Spuul app. It appears to work very well on the MXIII ...

Here is a YouTube guide on adding your own IPTV playlist to XBMC. The PVR Simple IPTV client has already been configured so you should only need to load a different playlist as explained in the video.

There are a large number of free Indian channels listed on iptv-free.blogspot.com ...

You should also be able to watch many of these channels via the standard web browser

@ AVSupply. Power supply was the fault.

Thanks for the speedy turn around time on the replacement.

Thanks Yotch.
I managed to find the Desi Zone add on. It has all the DSTV and top TV Indian channels.

The normal video player on the MXiii is pretty good, I haven't had any issues playing any of the video or audio formats I usually play. No lag, pretty decent IMHO even over network all is well.

Even the girlfriend likes it more than any of my previous units I have owned,
Neat!

Giving it a quick test run now
Will need some help with customization and setup soon

Cool, check the opening post - some of it may be out of date, but there are some tips in there. Otherwise there's plenty in this forum, but don't let that stop you asking ;)

i can't get my epg to work on live TV. i have tried as posted on pg103-105. but it does not download the epg, the channels all work.
this is on the mxiii.

@sporty69: Have you checked that you have the correct epg address loaded in the PVR Simple IPTV configuration?

EDIT: In XBMC check under System > Add-ons > Enabled Add-Ons > PVR Addons > PVR IPTV Simple Client > Configure > EPG Settings > XML TV URL > http://is.gd/vguide2

@AlexFI: I don't think that the OTA feature works on the generic MX units, it may do on the official Matricom MX2 units.

@Yotch: no i have not checked that. what should it be? and how do i go about setting it. i am all new to this. enjoying it so far. dont know why i waited so long...

@sporty69: XBMC downloads the EPG from this address. Just look for the System menu and then click on Add-Ons etc. It's possible that this address has disappeared. It is supposed to be http://is.gd/vguide2
