The Droid TV thread

HI chaps

I have an old CRT in my bedroom and need a device that runs XBMC to stream from my XBMC server in my lounge.

The trick is that I need AV out (which this has) but what about audio. My CRT doesnt have SPDIF.

Regards

@getafix: I have been using my MXIII on a CRT TV (analog video and audio) and I am very impressed with the video output. The picture quality is the best that I've ever seen from a media player. I am running XBMC directly on the MXIII and it is working very well.

@Djin: I am running both Netflix and Hulu Plus on my MXIII. I have a few screenshots of the menus from Netflix / Hulu Plus if you want to see - the content is protected via DRM so I can't capture it unfortunately. My 10Mbps line struggles to stream at 2Mbps so I cannot get the 720p and 1080p modes in any case.

What ISP are you using? Axxess worked well on mine, though I'm stuck with Telkom right now (capped). Uncapped is totally unacceptable.

@Arietans: I am using one of the budget WA capped packages but Afrihost capped is also not streaming well for me at the moment. I am only getting around 2~2.5Mbps to New York on Speedtest on a 10Mbps line at the moment. Netflix's best 1080p stream is at 5800kbps which I've never been able to reach. I see that other customers are also complaining in the WA thread!

Do any of you M8 owners want to test my new ROM out?

XBMC has been updated to version 13.2 and I've used the latest available firmware which should fix the random interlacing issue. I've also added the same MXIII tweaks to the Boot Image / Animation and Launcher

Definitely keen to try it out!
What is the order to install - do I have to do toothpick / clear dalvik?
Thanks a ton!

Toothpick all the way!! :)

**Note, this update will format your data partition and remove all your settings and apps.

Do you still want to try it?

@AVSupply: Do you think I can flash this on my ATV1800e? Not sure if the hardware is compatible.

If I may of course ...

No custom rom exists but I'm trying to get it out of the developers, I like your launcher and XBMC changes you have made, that would be EPIC! Otherwise I can extract it out of your image. your Metro style launcher looks good :-)

How do you update your box, via MicroUSB or SD Card?

No OTG on the box, found that out too late due to factory changing the spec In China.
I update via OTA or SD card.

Cool, SD card will work

Is there an update I can download from somewhere?

Thanks

Absolutely. Even if I have to reinstall stuff / reconfigure stuff it's fine. Only thing I may need to figure out is how to get the one or two paid apps to work without re-purchasing. Not sure if that would be an issue. They were only about R50/R30 or so so no big deal.

I'll write up instructions on getting torrents scheduled for between 12am and 7am - I know many capped account users have special free download periods like I do.

If you have time of course, I dont mind - internet is dead as disco

Hey! Disco is alive and well my side :D
