The Droid TV thread

I have received some alarming news from Yotch in another thread, seems like the Netflix app on the MXIII only does SD? Is there a work around for this?

As per the Netflix site - "Netflix HD playback is available on select KitKat (Android OS 4.4) based devices."

The hope is that with the roll out of Lollipop, Netflix HD will soon come to all devices. I am sure it will, as the iPhone 6 Netflix app now has HD, so Netflix will most likely roll out to other devices soon.

There is apparently an app, let me see if I can find the link to it.

It seems that Netflix is not too concerned about all the Android users. I suppose most of them are on phones and tablets, where you do not need HD. I read that there was a DRM issue with Android which is why they cannot allow HD, but this was a long time ago. You would think that they have resolved this by now.

I have a 51" and sit rather close, so SD just won't do it for me :sick:

Thanks, maybe someone can test this for us? I haven't bought a DroidTv yet, wanted to make sure it can do everything I want.

Yup it sucks, I almost bought the MXIII this morning, luckily I saw the post by Yotch.

At this point I think I am going to give up and get a Chromecast and use the Netflix app on my iPad.

As I said, the hopes with Lollipop coming out, HD across all devices should become a standard.

Yes, I did use the wifi analyzer... got a pretty good signal. Was around -50dBm IIRC, well within the green zone.
I did switch the Wifi Direct off on the Smart TV thinking it might cause interference but it made no difference. Was the issue with the other customer caused by wifi or general electrical interference?

The Router is an Asus DSL-N55U Dual-Band N600 Gigabit Router, which has decent performance. It goes through a single wall but the signal is still strong. The link speed is 50mpbs+ (sometimes in triple figures depending on the device).

Moving the MXIII a few centimetres left or right increased their performance, so maybe it was a combination of electrical and WiFi interference?

Is there a way to turn dual band off on your router? I wonder if that's maybe causing your issues

This application wont work as devices needs Google Certification and a locked boot loader.
Android L should bring 720P to Netflix Android devices via the OS and DRM. RK chipsets are busy with Lollipop implementation and S802 is on route. Remember Google makes up the rules as they please. Netflix asks $250 000 for certification which is absurd! We will get there I'm sure of it as I have some inside information that a well known S802 manufacturer is already busy with Lollipop and Google certification, it will be matter of porting it over to our boxes. The resolution on the current Netflix app is not bad - I have a 55" TV and SD looks pretty good as its upscalled as well. Watch this space :)
