The Droid TV thread

I got everything we need apart from DSTV premium, sorry guy ... Maybe if I wasn't so cheap

IMHO It's not the device ID ... It's seems that its generated by the application. Mine is the same on MG582, and MXIII ... The MG582 has root ... Or some form of it in the GMS firmware. That poses a problem too, We require a locked boot loader I reckon with no root access and the app to assign a compatible ID ... ??? Been testing it all morning ... This XDA app changes the serial number on the device, nothing more ...not the ID thats used in the DSTV now app. In order to change the device id, you need root, change it, hope that it's not in use and remove superSu and retry again ... from what I have read it even fails on the purest form of Android ... Nexus.

And of course the app needs to register a proper device ID from what I gather.

Abort, retry ... fail

Thanks for the testing JvanD. The combination of a open bootloader, root and possibly some cloned code in the firmware is causing the problem. This is also most likely the reason that Now TV doesn't work on the box.

No problem, I'll play with it some more on the weekend.

Does anyone know on which stock or firmware BBC Iplayer works for the MXIII?
Thanks Guys.

You have to match the BBC media player version with the iPlayer version. Was posted somewhere.....have to have a look

Time for a report-back:
A few weeks ago I rage-quit on my DroidTV. You can look back through the thread for the issues I've had (audio dropout, audio-synch issues, Kodi 14 breaks playback, bad networking performance).

I decided to go big and get an i5 Intel NUC micro PC (equipped with 4GB of RAM and an old 60GB SSD I had lying around). The device itself is around the same size at the DroidTV but about twice as high. It's made of solid aluminium and is really nicely put together. I installed Windows 7 and Kodi 14.1 and its performance has been nothing short of outstanding. Unexpectedly, it boots faster than the DroidTV. I'm happy to report that my audio problems have gone away completely. Network performance is where it should be (70-80MB/s via ethernet). There's lots of options for alternative media renderers such as MPC-HC with MadVR for high quality playback.
With Steam installed, I can stream all of my games from my gaming rig to the NUC and enjoy them on the big TV. "Shadow of Mordor" looks awesome on the big screen!

Downsides:
Noise: Under heavy load (only when using external players) the fan becomes noticeable... not overbearing but you know it's there, just on the edge of your hearing. Using Kodi, the CPU hardly goes above 6% so there's plenty of headroom for more demanding apps.
USB 3.0 & Bluetooth interference: This one just boggles the mind. It seems that the USB 3.0 can interfere with the 2.4Ghz band which means the range of bluetooth devices directly plugged into a port is severely reduced. Only solution is to get a USB extension chord to move the transmitter away the NUC. After that, everything works fine. You can read about this phenomenon here if you're interested.
Price: An Intel NUC doesn't come cheap. The bare-bones device (sans RAM and storage) will cost around R5k.

In general though I'm very happy with my NUC. It's an expensive but (IMHO) worthwhile upgrade to the DroidTV.

They fixed it from version 111k4 with the latest version being 112k4. You need the BBC Media Player app in conjunction with the BBC iPlayer app and it only works on wifi not ethernet.

Oman version (stock)

AVSupply version
http://mbox.co.za/forum/viewtopic.php?f=64&t=315

I am using Wifi and tried both stock firmware from Beelink and the AVSupply firmware based on 112K4. I have DNS setup to block Google on my router, my Hulu and Netflix work fine ... It's just BBC iPlayer that loads but shows no content. I get the following error:

"This content doesn't appear to be working"

Tried different channels, shows etc Beginning to think its a version thing, I have BBC Iplayer and BBC Media player apps installed.

BBC IPlayer = 4.6.0.277
BBC media player =3.1.6

Not sure what's up with this as I'm sure I'm doing something wrong. Might remove the static DNS from my router later and play a bit later. It always used to work, not a crisis but would be a win if I can get it back. TVCatchup app works on ITV and the rest of the UK channels.

And you switched to WiFi before accessing BBC iPlayer right?
