The Droid TV thread

Hi everyone.

New to droid boxes. Thinking of asking my sister to bring one down from the uk. What would be the best generic box to get? Cant spend more than £30 so boxes like minix is out. Mainly going to stream with kodi and maybe show max.

A friend just posed the following question:

Which Android media player that can run Kodi and is 4K capable would you recommend? (I'd like to expand on that and say, one that is fully HEVC/10 bit capable, if possible)

He bought a 4K TV a couple weeks ago and his pc isn't cutting it on 4K res.

He bought a 4K Samsung TV a couple weeks ago and his pc isn't cutting it on 4K res.

Plus has DRM that supports Showmax, DSTV Now and SS, I'll buy one too.

Hey guys

I have an android TV box and playing some games with a BT controller

Beach Buggy racing
MC5
Dead Effect
Asphalt 8 Airborne
Sword of Xolan
FIFA 16 UT

All these games worked pretty much "out of the box" - Auto detected the controller and just work

Please help me out with some more games that you are playing with a controller!?

Thanks

Guys I know has prob been hashed a million times here but I am struggling to finding the relevant threads. Have recently cut the cord and have been running apple tv 3 which to be honest I hate as they are locked down you can do anything and I have to run kodi through my laptab. The main things I want to do is use kodi, watch Netflix, have access to android stores including Googlewatch and be able to watch digital library through external hard rive. I run on wireless and have only a max of 8mb upload and 1 download. I don't want roku, apply or nvidia as they all pay tv only. In a nut shell what is a good Droid box that is reasonable priced. There are so may different skins to these Droid boxes but I need to get 3 so price is a factor. Thanks for any advise guys.

I wish i can be a guinea pig for a new remote lol... The one i bought clearly doesn't work, but didnt feel like returning it to AV supply. :) but need to get a new one anyway.

You can get a RM Mini 3 then you can use your smartphone as a universal remote for almost all IR devices by learning it the remotes.
A TK617 air mouse also works great as a remote.

Do you have a link where i can take a look at this?

It looks like ICASA is stopping a lot of smart devices imported for personal use.
Smart devices include phones, tablets, tv boxes, smart watches, wifi speakers, smart plugs, basically anything with a wifi chip.
Just be aware when you get a tv box.
People with Nexbox A95X's have so far been affected.
An ICASA license for a single device costs around R4000.

Why this box?

But a variation license costs R2000. The problem is when emailing I casa you get no response as a simple list of certified devices will lead to no issues

Hi guys,

Other than the WeTek, is there any media player device that can handle x265/10bit? I have a mede8er 500x2, which has been great up until now - no more firmware updates, and it only plays the sound on the x265 files :(

In desperate need of a replacement and the android boxes on banggood and other sites don't seem to cut it. I don't need all those extra channels and functions, just something that I can add cover art to and play what is becoming a more commonly used codec these days - 2265/HEVC/10bit.

Thanks

Edit: I found the roku4, which gets pretty good reviews, but it apparently won't get HDR support so not future-proof in that sense (not that any tech is future-proof). Is HDR something to look out for?
(I get HDR in normal photography, but haven't heard about it in video)

Hey Droid TV gurus - Need your recommendation a cheap tv box to try out Kodi. Ive had a Roku 3 for a few years, but only use it for Youtube and Plex apps nowadays, so want to try and see what a droid box with Kodi has to offer.

I could go with a raspberry pi 3, but not sure what i'd use for the remote (recommendations welcome). Is the raspberry pi 3 any better than an off-the-shelf android box in the same price range? I have a raspberry pi 1B, but that seems too sluggish for this task.

My budget is around R700 or approx $50, I dont mind buying from Aliexpress or other sites.

Edit: Don't have a 4K TV, so that ins't a priority.
