The DStv and TopTV decoder price war

I agree. However, the R299 price point is low enough to say "What the heck, let's try it out"
 
All the sport you can imagine all in one place - that's why I love DSTV. We have access to more sporting content than many providers in the UK and US.. If this was split up between TopTV and DSTV then you would get a few sports on DSTV and a few on TopTV and you would then have to pick which sport is more important to you. For that reason I like the idea of someone in this forum that SS could be licensed out to TopTV, so the same sport is still available to all.

I'd also imagine that the moment TopTV get more licenses for sporting content their prices will go up significantly. Those sporting even licenses are hugely expensive.

I can confirm that On Digital Media's (ODM) TopTV is working feverishly behind the scenes to add a whole new Indian bouquet to the pay TV platform in November.

Reliable sources tell me the Indian bouquet will not form a part of the new channels - between 5 and 10 - that TopTV is planning to roll out in October. I scooped the news RIGHT HERE that ASTV will be one of those channels added in October to TopTV which has not been confirmed by TopTV but that I can absolutely guarantee will happen.

Meanwhile speculation is rife, with channels such as CBS Reality and 4Music now mentioned. At this specific moment its just conjecture. It could be, it also couldn't be. TopTV will never confirm it before they make an official announcement but my sources (and I have the best sources, believe me) don't know anything about it. That's not to say its a ''no'', I just haven't heard of any more channels yet.

I just hope for their sake its not CBS Reality, ASTV and 4 music because they are all K*K. They will definitly be loosing hordes of people. If I want to watch reality I watch Discovery etc. not Jerry springer, Idols or cr*p like that

Until such a time that DSTV drops their monthly pricing I wont be interested. I am willing to pay round about R400 , I dont feel thats too bad for both parties.
 
I don't see Multichoice doing anything like slashing prices etc. They are the monopoly, so do as we do with ADSL, shop around, wait a while. Also, R299 for a decoder and installation - why not give it a go!

And DSTV has all the latest movies? Of course they're outdated - DSTV is no different. When I do watch movies on Top TV, they're good. And no, movies don't have to have top-line Hollywood "Brand" names in order to be classified as "good" (that only draws the crowds.)

edit: yes they have "Fox Retro" and MGM, and DSTV has TCM and 90+ other channels ... the point being ??? DSTV has LOADS of outdated stuff, a glut or re-runs, and a snippet of new stuff ... ditto with Top TV (symptomatic of syndicated TV ...)

On a separate note: brilliant everything when it first arrived, but the last few weeks have had hell with reception on some channels - have logged various support tickets, still waiting for a resolution though... will revert on the "worth it?" bit

This whole thing shows just how much we were being fleeced before. Especially infuriating is the annual cost increases (with long justifications), followed mysteriously by 'dstv lite' which somehow managed to come in cheaper immediately after there was competition in the market.

i think it is; compared to DSTV...i watch the same amount of TV on TopTv, but pay less than half what i used to pay with DSTV.
 
Since we got TopTV (May) we have watched at least an hour of TV a day. Our 2yo daughter also gets in about 20 to 30 minutes a day.

At R250pm I'm happy.
