Anyone know if we'll be able to buy hardware from tomorrow - or is it still only essential providers?

Guess I need to go buy some cornice glue and skirting glue.

Any tips on cutting MDF skirting? I tried by hand with all my saws and I have enough stamina to make 1 cut per day.
Would a freehand jigsaw at 45 degrees do an ok job?

If you use a high tooth count blade and you have a good quality jigsaw that can very accurately adjust to 45 Deg angle and you take your time to make sure the cut is straight, it may come out acceptable..

Worst case you use some wood filler, let it dry, sand smooth and paint over it..

if you’re in Cape Town I have about 10 tubes of cornice glue.
For the cutting, make yourself a guide with a straight edge or piece of wood. That’s the best way to ensure you get nice cuts. Of course the correct blade like mentioned as well. Otherwise borrow a circular saw from someone?

I really really hope we can start buying stuff from the 1st. We want to laminate our living area floor, could be a fun project for lockdown!

Mitre Saw is the best for skirting

I have some cornice to do but struggle with those corners

The trick to cornice cutting is to hold the cornice in the same position it will be attached to the wall when you are cutting for the corners.. I used some scrap wood blocks to help hold the cornice up in the same position while I was cutting..

And cut them upside down as well

Yea I can imagine how useful a mitre saw is lately... will get that or something better in future for woodworking.

For now it's plain white and I'm selling, so doesn't have to be perfect.

I managed fine with the foam cornice, cutting upside down in a mitre box. Pain is some of them pulled loose from the wall already... I thought this would be the end of constant gap filling.

A miter saw will do it in minutes. Otherwise, a good old backsaw and miter box.

The crap part about cornice is that walls are not always square or close to it. In Jan I did a place where I use the mitre box just for a close to perfect cut and had to trim down to avoid large gaps for filling.

Why didn't you skim the whole though?
