any1 that has shortened one of those cast iron? plumbing exhaust pipes that go up through the roof, with one of those caps you can buy at like Chamberlains?

we have one running along a wall and I serious want it shortened as it is blocking me from putting up a IBR roof, but my dad is scared that by cutting it shorter he will smell the fumes (doesn't think that cap that supposedly 'kills' the fumes will work even though I tell him houses now get built like this)

Its something I have on my radar to do as well, I absolutely hate the damn thing, and want it shorter with the valve ontop.

I don't see it being all that difficult really, just cut the pipe at the required height, get the converter piece from cast iron to pvc and put on the valve.

I used Origin Quartz, also a cheaper alternative to Caesarstone.
I went through three companies to do installation across the braai room, granny flat. The first two were shít and told them to just leave it.

Third company was much better, and fixed up the other two's mistakes.
Granite Objects is their name. Here's a quote for some of the work they did for me. Quote is about 2 months old.

Thanks for the info. I will give them a try.

100% they work :D and yeah I have the same issue with the shyte pipe being in the "entertainment space" as well.

I have had them in at least 3 previous places I've lived, and the granny flat has it since I basically rebuilt it from the ground up a few years ago... No poop smell at all.

k awesome

can maybe replace both we have here and close the gap in the roof

you don't maybe have a link to what you got?

"CLIENT IS RESPONSIBLE FOR ALL ELECTRICAL, GAS AND PLUMBING CONNECTIONS. IN BOLD"
Think that last part was part of the instruction to whoever created the template?
haha... didn't even notice that.

My genius builders ran mine into the new roof space of my entertainment area and never did anything else, it's just chilling there in my roof, with no cap on.

On the plus side it doesn't smell like poop at all in my roof.
On the downside I need to fix it before I have a methane explosion after eating Indian food.

Either uPVC, or opt for aluminium and then put rubber stripping around the windows to provide a good seal.

Either option will make a huge difference, just uPVC will be bollocks expensive in comparison. I've replaced around half the windows in my house with aluminium and intend on doing the remainder either later this year, or early next year.
This is my plan, tackle the 3 trouble windows first, and the doors, then the remaining 6 windows

Yeah, uPVC ain't cheap. When we moved into our current house 3 years ago the front 3 windows were already uPVC - so we felt compelled to make everything else uPVC too.

Still two bedroom windows and 1 sliding door to do. Probably gonna be about R60k including installation.

Ouch yeah that is quite a bit :-)

Wow ok, that is stupidly pricey in comparison...

I had a quote around a year ago to do 3 big windows (2m wide), a sliding door, and 6 smaller bathroom windows for around R35k in Aluminium, and it was closer to R45k to go Double glazing on the big windows and sliding door.

I've got 4 windows that are a real pain right now that need to be done, one is a bathroom window, the other 3 are about a meter and a half, so would expect it to be roughly that price yeah. I did have the contractor replace the glass last year in one of them, as his guy smashed the glass with his ladder, but they left the tape on the putty and it got hard so now it's also stuck :-(

It was something like this : https://www.plumblink.co.za/110-vent-valve-one-way-vv1101w_1

TBH, I can't remember if it was the 1 way or 2 way version... will need to go and have a look later.

ah, just wanted to make sure I was looking at the right thing, but will probably anyway make sure at the store

big oooof that... ours is luckily on our outside walls going straight up through the roof
