My MIL was not impressed that we removed her brown bath because "you don't take out a solid iron bath and replace it with plastic".

When we eventually removed it it took 5 guys to carry, but she wouldn't let them take it away - she wanted to keep it for god knows what. After a couple of months lying in the yard she then said ok it can get chucked out.

That left me and my BIL with the wonderful job of moving this insanely heavy thing. It's ridiculous how much these things weigh.

Could probably have had someone pay you to take it away... solid iron baths are in demand in some areas, and can be re-enameled to a more suitable colour...

Well now, don't keep us in suspense... Dish the details so we can help you spend it unwisely :D

In all honesty though, your first step should be a floor plan with the sewerage lines and drainage to the exterior of the house marked out so you can see what you can and can't move easily.

That bathroom is screaming out for a proper efficient layout if you ask me.

These are marble tiles. There are marble suppliers in SA yes, but they will cost you dearly. These cabinet doors are available at builders last I checked.

Marble gives that natural look. Even if you had a smaller bathroom with marble on the floor and paint on the wall it would look real nice. You cant beat the natural light bouncing off marble, its beautiful.

I’ve used a single concrete polishing disc to do that before.

Have seen so many homes that have beautifully updated kitchens/rooms/bathrooms but almost never have I seen a home that ties them all together in one style/look. It's funny when people renovate and don't include a certain style from the start

Nothing in the entire house has been renovated since the 70s. I can't complain, it's enabled us to be able to afford to get into the neighbourhood. We've already spent more than the 25% saving off the asking price & it's worked cheaper than buying any other place in the area.

Largely the best way to "buy up" into a better area.

Find a house that is livable but hasn't been updated or just needs some decent TLC to turn it around.

The transfer happened just before Covid lockdown March 2020 and we had already purchased cement/sand/tiles/etc. During lockdown the contractor and staff stayed at the house renovating it. They couldn't go anywhere so they just worked and got it liveable by the time we hit level 4.

The pink bath had a big crack, dumped that. The green one's in better condition, will gauge the interest when we get to renovating that bathroom. Apparently the fish-taps are in demand
 
I'm sure I saw something in this thread somewhere or on MyBroadband about a cheaper non-traditional alternative to roofing a partially enclosed space (surrounded by 3 walls). Almost like a sunroom but not quite. Does anyone know what this option is called?

Just got keys to my holiday bachelor flat and have lots of work to get to what we want. Going to painting the next two days first and just cleaning up.

Braai area needs fixing. Going to remove the base and just slot in my braai. Looking at installing a removable stainless steel ash tray/BBQ tray. Will put pins at various heights to allow raising/lowering the braai. If I braai alone, then I like to sit and braai instead of standing.

Will also tile area.

The bathroom is going to cost the most as it has some bad looking cracks. They are worse than they appear and I factored in repairs on my offer. My neighbor at home had worse cracks on a load bearing wall and I used her quote for guidance.
