So, our washing machine is on the floor in the corner of garage. It needs to lifted up to make room for easy entrance (don't ask, it just has to be done) for the car.

Is it possible ? I don't know if a very stable platform can be created to account for all the movement of washing machine.
Have you felt the weight of a washing machine? The front loader we have, and not an old one either, is like 30 or 40kg. It is moerse heavy. I wouldn't hang that on a wall regardless of the vibrations.

It may be possible though. You need the weight, and then find a way to have it hang the weight, so the top is connected to the wall. The anchors you use needs to be rated for the weight of the machine (generally rawlbolts). Though you can keep in mind the weight will be shared between the anchors.

Still, good luck doing that job. I personally would find an alternative.

Anyone care to enlighten me about cordless drills?

The upcoming house move seems like an ideal excuse to finally get a proper new drill to replace my existing entry-level Bosch.

Replace the sand with reusable filter fabric.. forget what it's called.. you just rinse the fabric filter blocks out every now and then and you never need to waste pool water to clean sand..
But what mission is it to open and close all those screws on the sand filter every time to clean?
Rather get a cartridge filter then

Check near the end of the thread for discussion about drills.

Undo a few screws vs the yearly replacement cost of the cartridge filter..

Id rather spend the extra 2 minutes undoing a few screws..

Yeah, it is not a good idea as per my handyman. Thanks. We will move it outside and that is going to involve some building now.. sho.. these things..

Well mine is 1.5 years old and still perfect. I do soak it overnight once a month in soap and degreaser though.

Nope, all those shyte in it, stuck for months will let your pool go green and you need to use more chemicals

Complains about the hack of undoing a few screws and possibly using a bit more chemicals in the pool, but soaks the cartridge filter in soap and degreaser every month completely fscking whatever chemical balance his pool has....

Funny that, I clean my fibre filters only every few months.. have cleaned it three times since installing it first time almost three years ago, not once has my pool gone green because I didn't clean it often enough...

HUH? I soak it in a big bucket on my patio and then rinse it off before I put it back in filter.
I'm not saying cartridge filters are the best thing ever. It is actually more work than a normal sand filter and backwashing. But it saves water, enough to equal the price of a cartridge even if I have to replace yearly.
For my pool it was the best option, I have many trees with some very small leaves falling of permanently that gets stuck in the sand. Had to replace sand yearly because can't keep the pool clean with rotting stuff in the sand. That is my same theory with these foam things if it's not cleaned every other week.

Mentioned my dodgy renovator a few times. He also worked on the house across the road (one of the references I used).

So - the house has sold, and they've been fixing up for over a month now - I noticed yesterday they dug up the driveway which was a bit weird.

Out of interest, I went and chatted to the builder - the new owners discovered that the dishwasher/washing machine (probably the entire kitchen) was hooked up to the pool waste pipe, and draining into the road

I actually mentioned it to the previous owner - because his pool was constantly draining, thought he had a leak. It also basically stained the road - thought he just used a ton of chlorine.

There is no way your rinsing it off rids it of all the strange shyte thats in the degreaser.... you are probably actually making your life more difficult from a pool balance point of view.

You would actually probably have been better served getting a solid PVC cover your your pool, less chemicals overal, less water loss, etc etc.

But the Pool Shops sell this degreaser for the cartridges?

They may as well check if the toilets and showers are also hooked up to it...

Ahhh thats different, I assumed you used standard degreaser which is full of nasty shyte.

Still my final point stands, you would have probably been better served getting a solid PVC cover for your pool.

Do the pool leaf skimmers that attach to the pool pipes work?

I have one that attached to the inlet - best I've had out of various - but - the #@$%#% creepy keeps breaking it off.

The problem with the PVC cover is it's a real PITA to keep taking off and putting it back whenever you want to actually use the pool.

We didn't use our pool at all last summer because it wasn't worth the effort with the cover. Eventually put a fence in so we could leave the cover off during summer and put it back during winter.

It does work great for reducing water loss, chemical use and keeping leaves out though...
