The Home Improvements Thread (3)

The finishing touches never ever ever ever end...

*looks at my kitchen that was "finished" 3 years ago that still has some odds and ends I want to do*
I told myself I was not going to do that, I will finish everything...

...the trim I need to scribe and cut to fit between ceiling and cupboards is going to be a while....

I told myself the SAME thing... :D

Doesn't help that the missus and I have some fundamental disagreements on a few little things and how much I'm prepared to spend on finishing them :P

looks very lovely, just wished you'd changed that window frame there to a new modern one...

is that your DB board there?

Yeah - is what it is on both points... going to paint it same color as dining room color. White blinds to be fitted as well so window will essentially "vanish"

Moving along will moving in - coffee stations are in!

Man I missed my bialetti got an induction version now :)

How are you enjoying that Tivoli tap so far?
I'm busy looking for a prep bowl tap and am considering a tap in this style. Thanks

hmmm, hoping can get some help over here

this wall is really starting to bug the heck out of me (and mom)

this is the state:

20240825_163046.jpg
20240825_163102.jpg

it's a small wall that was once an outside wall to an outside toilet/shower, which is now an inside wall to the shower
so obviously it wasn't really protected against steam from the shower and so now it is starting to peel
so now I would like to paint it, but trying to just scrape the paint off is a mission because the plaster itself (not the paint),
has that 'popcorn' texture
short of trying to use an actual grinder with grinding disc (this is a small enclosed area, so the dust will be a nightmare),
are there any suggestions I could try?
I have tried a paint remover, an orbital sander (yes I know :D ) and short of using a flamethrower, a small blowtorch

Personally, I'd chip that all back to brick and replaster with Coprox mixed in, possibly even tile it properly if a shower wall.

Grinder with wire cup wheel..

lol, I am trying to minimize my workload :D

if I do chip it back, I can just paint over the bricks right?

you're stuck with the popcorn effect for now unless you want to replaster, which you can over that but is it really neccesary?

1) you don't need to remove all the paint, just brush it with a wire brush to remove loose flaky pieces.
2) You can then use a plaster primer on the wall
3) and then a universal undercoat
4) then you can paint the wall
