Yup, functionality on the B593s-601's V200 firmware is very "simplified". What's there works very well, but that's where it ends.

anyone no of firmware that has the ability to change this ?

Firmware updates for the B593 - and, it seems for many Huawei devices - are basically nonexistent.
I've also seen very little evidence of formal support (forums etc) from Huawei.
There might be "unofficial" firmware out there, but most correspondence that I've seen comes from folks hacking away at "undocumented features" rather than modifying firmware per se.
Fortunately the device works very well out the box, without the need to mess around much.

Yes, although at $25/year for DynDNS Pro with 30 hostnames, it's no great hardship and it works well.

In actual fact ADSL is now less reliable than LTE for me, especially in bad weather. Bad copper, bad cables, bad junction boxes etc lead to frequent line-drops when it's windy or rainy.

Exactly my experience too! LTE is a lot better and more reliable. As soon as the wind blows, my ADSL drops out and only comes and goes and I have to reset my router to reconnect. Even worse when it rains as well. Despite having reported it several times.

Significantly O/T, but a case in point : on days like today, my ADSL connection tells me when it's about to rain

Another reason to love LTE! :D

Thank you for all the info on this thread. Went ahead and got myself a B593 601 yesterday from Sandton City Edgars, - there are now three left there.

Quickly setup last night. I get a weak TM LTE signal, download on TM about 20 mbps, upload around 2 mbps. I'll need to add external antennas.

Also tried using my Afrihost (MTN) LTE SIM in it, could not get it to work. Does not connect. What am I doing wrong, went through all the settings, cannot find anything relevant which would indicate to the modem it should now not receive/transmit on 2300 mhz... What am I missing?

have you set up the apn on the router to afrihost if you have not you won't be able to connect to.the network, force 3g with afrihost sim cards you have to ask afrihost.to provison the card for.lte(4g"

I managed to get Afrihost to work on the LTE CPE B593

Hi Guys,

I am just posting this here in the event someone else struggles like I did.
To get the router to work with Afrihost you must change the APN profile from the default mtn one that is preloaded on the device to "afrihost".

Since you cant edit or remove the default one, I tried adding a new profile but that did not work.

So to get around that little obstacle I inserted some javascript into the admin control panel and fixed the problem.

To repeat what I did, log in to the router. Go to Internet -> APN Management.
make sure there is only one APN profile (by deleting any others).
right click the "edit" link on the default profile and click "Inspect Element" from the menu.
now change the onclick="return false" attribute to onclick="return selectLine('tritem_0');"

now you will be able to click the "edit" link and change the default profile to "afrihost" and username to "afrihost"

Save your changes and that it :)

For any folks who've been battling with an issue like that, that's an awesome contribution, thegreatfuzz - well done!

I would assume that you're posting specifically about the MTN-branded B593 device, which I think is the B593u-12 - confirm ?

Just by way of info, the "all-purpose" B593s-601 has no limitations on APN profiles - apart from the default 'Auto' entry, you can add custom APN profiles and edit/delete them at will :

Hi guys , any latest updates on where one can get the R1499 deals for the B593 currently? Have decided to grab one over this weekend. Thanks :)

Don't worry about RICA if you have a SI_ card already tell the consultant you want the router and not to worry about RICA - later on you can RICA the card when you are ready

Cool thanks. I already have tons of 8ta gigs and need the speed :)

Think I'll just need to Sim swop because I still have the original black n white ones

jcheek, No it is not, Oddly enough. It is a B593s-601. I picked it up at the Telkom outlet store in Cresta, and the representative assured me it will work with any LTE sim card on any network. So It was quite the surprise logging in to find MTN preloaded and uneditable. Maybe it pulled the settings from my afrihost mtn sim? either way, case closed as far as I am concerned since all is working now.

Now that's interesting.
After reading your post, I tried putting my 'plain' MTN (not Afrihost) LTE-enabled SIMcard onto my own B593s-601.
The 'Auto' setting got populated with the 'right' details for MTN internet access, but I could still add, edit and delete new APN entries at will :

I wonder why your unit behaves differently ?

Under 'Home / Product Information' :

Do you see the same as the above ?
