The Huawei B593 LTE discussion thread

I have a bit of a strange problem with a B593u-91
It works fine and everything and get anything from 12-20Mb/s download, but as soon as I try to download an nzb or torrent it doesnt work.
I have tried the sim in another 3g dongle and the downloading works just fine, so not sure why its not working in the router?
Anyone have any ideas?

Ill post the firmware and other details when I get back home this evening. Hopefully its just a setting that I am missing.

Was trawling the thread last night for details of various people's firmware versions on the B593s-601 specifically.

I found the following :

Joining the dots, it looks like some of the latest batch of cut-price imports may have come in with firmware version 'B180D20, which seems to be one version behind the 'latest known' 'B270D00.

Joining some more dots, it seems like the 'B180D20 version has :
- A problem with VoIP (using SIP)
- A possible Wi-Fi channel-setting anomaly (Bundu has this issue - see here and here)
- A possible DDNS update anomaly ? (see here)

RichardG, SHANRSA and DerrickSA, it would be useful if you could confirm which versions you're on ?

liquidskies seems to have done the most research in updating firmware on the B593s-601 - see here.
Edit1: I've PM'd liquidskies and asked him/her to share the firmware file or source.

Edit2: Added version details for SHANRSA - looks like the Wi-Fi channel anomaly is not 'B180 firmware-related after all ...

Got mine from Telkom just over a month ago. It is the 601 and it also has the B270D00 firmware on.

The firewall has a few basic levels of security which is pretty self explanatory. See if it works if you drop it a level.

I have been getting frustrated with having to type my username and password every time I want to log into my router. It will just not save the password automatically. Proven solution. I downloaded the iMacro extension for chrome. It will install on the top right bar. Double click to launch. Set it to record. Type in login ip, username and password.Logs in. Stop recording. It will save it in the bookmark manager. Go there ( chrome menu/bookmark manager )and search under "other" then look under "Imacro". Rename it to B593 login and just drag and drop to boomark bar. Now whenever you want to login just click on the bookmark bar tab that you saved and it logs in like a bomb. I could have used lastpass and other password managers but I would rather not have my password in the cloud. This is just a safer option. Now I enjoy one click logins. :D:D:D

Good tip. The timeouts are also a pain but good security

GREAT! This has been annoying me as well - I use Firefox and see it's also available for FF

Thanks
problem solved. Seems the default firewall value on the b593u-91 is set to high.

any news on this?

I've just noticed than when I set the "802.11n bandwidth:" to 20/40 MHz, the channel anomaly occurs. When its set only to 20 MHz, the channel set and actual is reported correctly.

Is there any reason why the "20/40 MHz" is better or is 20 MHz just fine?

No word from liquidskies yet, sorry. Seems he hasn't been on the forum much since July.

A company called 'Arbalest' also distribute and sell the B593 - see here. They list the B593 at R2199.
You could perhaps try them for firmware support ?

No complaints on my side! Using Cell C with the router and must say CELL C has done a fantastic job on their network! I am able to download at 10 Mbps :)

I've emailed to-and-fro with the guy from Huawei SA, but he's so deuriekark or lazy and can't figure out a way to get the ~44MB FW files to me.... too big for gmail and he seems unable to store it somewhere and send me the link.... <sigh>

And he works for a networking equipment company :wtf:
