The Huawei B593 LTE discussion thread

OK, so I have a copy of the 'B270D00' firmware in my paws, thanks to Jaco at Huawei South Africa. The file's about 42MB and lists like this :

View attachment 174603

Quite why the file starts with "B710" rather than 'B593", I don't know, but I'm assured that it's the right thing.

I haven't tried this file myself (I already have this version of firmware loaded), but if anyone needs a copy, please PM me for a DropBox download link.

As always, re-flashing firmware carries some risks, so be warned and use the file at your own risk.
But if anyone does try it, please let us know how you do.

Some points to note:
1. There's been some suggestion that the "B270" file will only work with "Version B" hardware, so unless your B593s-601 shows as "Hardware Version : Ver.B" (under the "Home / Product Information" tab), rather leave well alone.

2. Huawei also said <quote>"The B180 is the general version while the B270 is for Telkom."<unquote> I can neither confirm nor deny that; I can only say that I use the B270D00 firmware with Telkom Mobile every day; and I've also used it on MTN LTE and it seemed to work perfectly.

Out of interest, here is a snapshot of the revision log in the release notes for this version update :

So it does indeed look like the B270D00 revision fixed some VoIP-related issues as liquidskies alluded to here.

great stuff! I must have pissed off that Jaco guy.....

could you PM me the link please? (also just fix the mod number in your heading)

Edit [13 Apr 2020] : Many years later, and after receiving a number of requests, I've decided to place a copy of the B270D00 firmware in a public Dropbox folder for those who might still need to load it. Find it here:

Telkom came back to me on facebook and referred me to this link

They have many of the B593 FWs, but for the B593s-601, they have the following

Eish, that site looks a bit dodge .... but oh well ... what's said there does tie up a bit with what Huawei SA said about the B180D20 version being 'universal'.
I've no clue what the other one listed there (B150D99) is. There's also no mention of B270D00 or even B236D20.

I guess it's good that Telkom found something to point you at, but if - as Huawei SA allege - the B270D00 version was "approved" for Telkom, Telkom of all people should know about it ...

I think in this case I would recommend going with what Huawei SA says, and what's known to work!
I guess you haven't tried loading B270D00 onto your B593s-601 yet ?

I agree, the FW you have, seems more legit - no, I haven't tried it yet..... need to gather some courage 1st or wait for somebody to try it ;-)

Could you aslo pm me the link to that as well.

Thanks to jcheek for the link, the main reason i need the firmware is because i had a botched firmware update that failed and i think i might have bricked my router. Iam unable to access the web interface and i have been trying to update by means of the huawei upgrade tool for b593 and all i get at the end is a continuous blinking voip indicator or network mode indicator(if i have the sim inserted) any one who could help ...

No problem - sorry you can't load it !

To be honest I think it may be time for you to try the formal support channel. I'd suggest that you contact Huawei South Africa (+27-11-517-9800) and log a ticket. It would no doubt involve getting your router physically to them, but I reckon there's a fair chance they have some kind of formal support tool to re-flash it.

I had a quick Google for "Huawei B593 upgrade tool" - apart from various hits on even dodgier sites, the most legit-looking one leads here :

SolvuSoft DriverDoc Huawei B593 page.jpg

WARNING: To anyone contemplating this, be aware that this is a semi-bogus site : although the many links on that page all look appropriate, and the links appear to install a file called "Huawei_Driver_Update_10-2014.exe", all they will do is install a copy of "SolvuSoft DriverDoc", one of those generic driver update utilities that tend to cause more problems than they solve and whose MO borders on malware.
The software is "legit", but it isn't what it purports to be. If you read the description, you'll also see that it's just generic waffle and slightly "off" (22 million downloads - really ??!).

Don't be conned!

Ill definitely try that

My B593s 601 always seems to get into "Equipment Mode" on every boot up. Many core features (WLAN, DHCP, etc) are not working. Firmware upgrade doesn't work. Any idea how to switch back to "Normal Mode"?

Speaking for myself (firmware version V200R001B270D00SP00C00 on the B593s-601), I've got no idea what "Equipment Mode" or "Normal Mode" refer to - don't think I've ever seen any reference to it on my unit.

Perhaps post some screenshots of where/when/how this "Equipment Mode" notification pops up ?
What version of firmware are you running now ?

Hie jcheek if u remember from the previous posts were i made refence to my failed firmware upgrade. I was able to get a huawei upgrade tool for b593 which i used to apply the upgrade file i acquired from you (B270D00). Now wen the router boots up most of the core functions are inactive or should i rather say they dont work . So i connect to it using lan and access the web interface. When i try to do an upgrade from within the web interface i get the following
5u9AiR9

I saw your included image the first time I read this post but for some reason it's gone now (broken image link).
But no matter, I see what you mean.

Some questions:
1) What "upgrade tool" did you use and where did you obtain it ? Downloaded somewhere, or from Huawei SA ?
2) Are you able to confirm that the router is actually using the B270D00 firmware now ?
3) At what point do you get the "running in equipment mode" dialogue box ? On mine I am able to choose the firmware (.BIN) file, press the "Update" button, and then I get a confirmation dialog box, see below :

B593 FW update screen.jpg

Do you get the "equipment mode" message before, or after, that point ?

If it happens after that point, the only thing I can think of is that the B593 wants to be completely offline before you attempt to upgrade the firmware ... ?
Try disconnecting and de-registering from the base station before starting the upgrade - at the "Internet / Network Connection" screen, select "Manual" for "Connection Mode", click "Submit", then click "Disconnect".
Dunno, just a suggestion ...

So which one do we download, or do we download both of them ?
and what benefit will we receive other than bricking the router eish.. lol....

So i had to move recently from Steeldale where i had LTE 3 bar signal to Alberton.. and guess what i have no TM network only 3G ;-( so disappointed, gave Telkom a call and asked them when they expanding out to my location... they say no ETA...

in any case took out my Vodacom Card as a test and put into my router... boom full 5bars signal WTF!!!... tested speed and 10mb down and 8 up.. on Telkom 3G i tweaked the settings for external to built in on both and max i got was 3.9 and up of 2.8 and because im on a contract ;-( i don't want to take out another contract with Voda just because i get LTE...really sucks... if i look on the coverage map.. im like a few 100 meters from the blue area.. ;-( and it wont help if i get the external antennas....

anyway... back to FW update... yes or no ;-)

Nothing more special than any other firmware update ... except that Huawei firmware has proven to be really, really hard to get hold of! :D

I haven't had the guts to do any upgrades - basically my 593 is working perfectly for what I need it to do - I'm actually waiting for somebody to 'brick' theirs and find a way to fix it again :-)
