Yip, as you've also discovered, getting B593 firmware (and official support in general) is a mission. Many of us have trawled the internet for firmware at one time or another without much success.

Rather than poke around on the 'net, I'd suggest that you go direct to Huawei SA support and request the firmware file you need. See this post for contact details, ask to speak to Jaco Snel and make sure you log a ticket. You can also email him at [email protected], but I'd recommend phone contact first.

Also see this post - the discussion relates mostly to different versions of the 'V200' firmware (whereas you have V100), but it may be useful for some background info.

Hi all.
Firstly thanks for all the reply's. I managed to sort it out. This is what worked for me. I managed to get hold of a file B593-u91.tar.bz2 (ver. V100R001C00SP053). My version was ver. V100R001C82SP150. Now this file looks like a rar file and you can un-rar it giving you certain files. However using these files (they are the correct one's the upgrade software looks for) I kept getting an error trying to do the upgrade. I downloaded an upgrade tool (B593 upgrade tool) and inside this little app (648K) you can choose if you would like to upgrade the router or router and modem. If choosing the router you have to un-rar the file first as it looks for a *.trx file.
I did that, started the upgrade and kept getting error's (signal light would go from 1st to second to 3rd to 4th bar then start flickering. What they don't tell you is: to force the upgrade you start the app to download to the router, if it bomb's out, don't stop anything on the app, simply do a hard reset by keeping reset switch in until router boots (switching router on/off/on does not work). The file will now load and flash the router. However doing this causes another problem, specially downgrading firmware. After logging into the router it showed the ver. the file was but showed that the modem software does not match the router firmware. I logged out, opened the download app again and chose router/modem and chose the *tar.bz2 file. Started the download, let the signal light start flickering (this time 2nd bar) then did a hard reset. File loaded just fine (took a good couple of minutes 10-15 mins). Restarted the router, logged in, and the simlock error was gone, under update didn't give me modem/firmware error (said software up to date). Did all the settings I wanted to set and works fine. Only thing that changed between the 2 versions of software is: 1. I now log into it on 192.168.1.1 where before it was 192.168.100.1 2. It supports Voip now. 3 I have sms function as it never had before. Thanks again and hope this helps someone out there. Conrad

What a mission! Glad you ended up with something that works.
You could probably get the original - or latest/best - version of firmware for your device from Huawei SA.
The V100 firmware on the 'u-91 is quite different to the V200 firmware that is on most 's-601's, I think.

Out of interest : what "upgrade tool" did you use and where did you download it from ?

If you click download now...it pops up an add, just close it and click download now again...it will then either save or download with download manager....that's what worked for me.

Interesting! A somewhat dodge download site, but the content looks legit.
The app and readme look like they originate from inside Huawei, since they seem to be intended for bulk-programming several devices at once. But also a nice solution for a single device, if that device no longer has a functioning "bootstrap firmware loader".
Useful find - very handy for anyone who finds themselves in that situation. Thanks for sharing!

You may have gone backwards a version or two, but at least you got rid of the network-locked firmware and the resulting need for a crack!

I was desperate so took a chance... Luckily it worked out ok. I downloaded another before this one but Eset killed it right away. Will definitely hang onto this file for any future mishaps, lol.
I hope my fix helps others as there are just not enough firmware/software/support for these routers but they work awesome (well for me anyway). My sons are going to jump up and down tonight when I get home....

I logged into the router and clicked update (just to check) and it connected and returned saying the software is up to date (although I know it is not). But what the hell....it works.

It will help definitely...
As a matter of interest: Do you have ACL setting menu in this firmware? Or maybe you can access management (192.168.1.1) not only by HTTP, but also Telnet or SSH? Or maybe such interface is enabled by default, so we could have direct access to the modem (as on B683 - see my earlier posting) and many other things for exploring...

I had an issue with my B593 last night and this morning. The pink/red light was on with no internet access. This is the first time I have seen this after 2 months with no problems. I didn't have time to try the sim in a USB modem as yet. Hope it is just the Telkom 8ta network that was offline and not a faulty modem.

Hi.
You could log into the router and see if your network is set to Auto. It could be that it is forced to a specific one like Lte, or 3G etc... Or you can try forcing it to 3G and see if it works, or just to Lte and see.... Best option is to try Auto then it should pick up any available one.... Red usually means no network connections. NEVER remove the sim with the unit on though....

Will check if it happens again when I get home. It was red and then worked for a few minutes, then red again. Maybe a tower is down because of the load shedding.
 
Does anyone know if the b593 works with powerline adapters becuase i find the wifif strength it sends out isnt strong enough.

Powerline adapters should work with any ethernet enabled device. The quality of your wiring counts too
 
Not sure if someone posted this. But Huawei B593 modem from telkom store in wonderpark pretoria are going for R1500 the best price I could find it for online was R1700.

Couldn't do it on the Huawei itself so I'm using my old 3g TPLink MR3420 (allows custom dns settings) as the dhcp server behind the huawei and the huawei is plugged into the wan interface of the TPLink. So my clients get network parameters from the tplink and browse via the Huawei
