The Huawei B593 LTE discussion thread

The screenshots definitely shows different firmware than I have. The link to the Chinese documentation is actually for Huawei enterprise routers running the Cisco IOS "clone" rather than the SoHo models like the B593 from the looks of things.

I do like your DMZ idea though, I'll give that a try. All my NAT, port mapping and policy based routing happens on my Cisco 2811 so passing all traffic through makes sense. Although it's not exactly bridge mode, a load of NAT is still going to take place. I'll have to do some playing to see if the DMZ rule behaves as pure IP/IP NAT.
 
I have this new toy ... a question please!

You can set up multiple SSIDs. Is there a way to limit the speed / data usage of a specific SSID please?

Welcome, jrudge. Unfortunately for that type of functionality, you would need to look to a brand such as Ubiquiti and their UniFi line of Wi-Fi devices.
 
Can anyone confirm that the B593s-601 will operate on MTN, Vodacom and Telkom Mobile?

I would really like a router that lets me take advantage of all providers data special offers.

Hi André - welcome to the forum.

Yip, the B593s-601 covers all current operators on LTE and 3G bands
Vodacom and MTN's LTE services use FDD on 1800MHz. Telkom Mobile uses TDD on 2300MHz. Neotel uses FDD on 1800MHz (I believe). The 's-601 does 'em all.
The only wildcard right now is how and where Cell C might offer LTE services when they roll out.

Just make sure your antenna arrangements (if any) cover the same bands. If you plan to use the built-in antennas, or the included flat whip antennas, then that's not an issue.

Anywhere between R1 499 and R1 999 is about the going rate.
R1 499 is generally in the Telkom Direct shops, though you may have to be persistent/insistent to find stock and wrest one from them!
Search this thread for details of where that deal was last seen.

Hope you find one and get on the LTE band(wagon) soon!

what the hell is going on ?? without the antenna can best speed !!!

before used the huawei e5372 with the antenna, and could be in the 34 megs of speedtest, about 2.5 and 3.4~4.0Mbs dl speed and 2mbs upspeed.

where turn the antenna , I always have the same CELLID, i really dont understand what's going on!

have a clear view on the tower operator , about 1.6km straight , do not understand why the router is at low speed when the mimo is conected...

Your current stats are interesting. I'm particularly looking at your signal quality which isn't good at all yet your speeds are great. For RSRQ you're normally looking for a value of -6dB to -8dB.

If one compares your two different screenshots, it seems like you've been handed over to another cell (the high RSRQ hints at this)...yet your Cell ID is still the same....hmmm.

I got the Huawei-HG532c router without checking if it supports LTE devices, and I had the E3276 LTE usb dongle, I had to do a work around which is flashing the E3276 dongle to be seen buy the the HG532c Router.firmware for the E3276 that will make it work on a 3G router can be found http://huaweifirmwares.com/

This actually saved me money because i wanted to buy the Huawei B593 LTE Router which costs R2,342 on kalahari.
I got the HG532c for R299 @ Makro(it was on special) and the E3276 for R700 from Gumtree(had to negotiate).

So i have build my own Huawei B593 LTE Router for R999

I'm hoping somebody here can assist me.
We have the B593u-91 (on Telkom Mobile). My hubby went and bought an external antenna for it - (http://www.otto.co.za/products/ante...-dual-patch-antenna-9-db-with-5-meter-cables/) - dont ask, I gave him the contact details for Poynting, but he decided to rather get the 'cheaper' one...

Problem is, now the router is not picking up the external. When I have the paddle antennas in, and run the system check, it picks it up as external, but when we connect this thing, it still says built-in...

Not sure if the issue is with the router or the antenna... The people just tells us to manually switch it, and actually didnt believe us when we said there is no option for it :/
Not sure if a firmware update will help or not...

Software version :V100R001C372SP100

We are getting:
Signal strength: 1
RSRP: -113
RSRQ: -7

So you can see why we are so desperate to get it working ;)

I suspect that the "Force antenna" option that Bundu shows is only present in the V200 firmware (as is normally used in the 's-601 model variant).

Hopefully someone with a 'u-91 and/or V100 firmware can confirm ?

I think system test are performed for 2x2 MIMO operation and it is prefered setup. When high corelation between two channels is detected, 2x2 MIMO is not possible, only 1x2 MIMO (at a half of maximum speed). At this point decision is taken to use internal antenna in 2x2 MIMO mode which gives better utilization of radio resources.

Looking at specs of the antenna, it says "MIMO", not 2x2 MIMO, then polarization is "vertical", but should be cross-polarized for 2x2 MIMO. Right? :)

you have the same major release (V100) and revision (SP100) as Conrads with his 'u-91 unit (see here).
I think that is the latest release in the V100 series, but in any case I don't think it would change the antenna-selection options or the behaviour that you're seeing.

Where (picture please) is the antenna installed (indoors or oudoors) and are you pointing to a TM tower?
 
i need a firmware which has vpn functionality enabled my router is huawei b593u-12
 
^ Wish i could have that too on my b593s 601, built in vpn would just be too awesome :)
