The Huawei B593 LTE discussion thread

Sorry, if from the Huawei LAN it would be expected. Try the other suggestion - not mixing port forwading with DMZ. If doesn't help, then problem is with your router, not Huawei. DMZ definitely works on Huawei.

Probably the main difference between DMZ and traditional port forwarding is that DMZ provide separation from the other users on the Huawei LAN segment. With port forwarding you might be able to add more functionality with added risk, I don't know it is worth.

I think since most people do not connect anything directly to the B593 there won't be much risk involved, from another angle it actually looks like a more secure setup if anything because only the few specific ports will be forwarded to the downstream router as opposed to a DMZ setup where the downstream router is left completely open. What risks do you think would come with this so we know

There is one missing option which affects above instruction: you can't reserve IP address for specific device, you must configure such device with a static IP outside of Huawei DHCP range.

Not sure if we are on different firmware versions but i am able to make IP reservations on my B593 as per the below snapshot at the bottom. 192.168.1.50 is reserved for the TP Link's WAN interface 1.52 for another device. Static IP is another way to go if it's a permanet setup, for me i sometimes switch between Adsl &LTE so i leave the Wan as dynamic

On the other note I would avoid configuring on Huawei port forwarding simultaneously with DMZ to the same IP address. It could trigger bugs in firmware. One could override the other.

Agree, i advised to completely disable DMZ and use normal port forwards.

Not going to discuss what is better here, both methods should work.

The entire paragraph in the quoted text was about B315s, if you read carefully, it will show.

What is your cellular network? Are you on unrestricted APN?

Cool my bad misread that one as referring to the B593.

It worked perfectly when I had adsl. I haven't changed any settings on the router so it should have worked with DMZ.

I'm on Telkom uncapped LTE.

On Telkom unrestricted APN is by default, then:

Or port forwarding as shown in details.

I had another go using Kianm's suggestion and port forwarding is now working.

Thank you for all your help. I really appreciate it.

Hi, I'm new to this forum. I have a WS322 which I use as range extender with the B593. It used to work like a charm, but for some reason I cannot access the internet when the extender is switched on. When I switch it off again, I can access the internet again. It must be some setting on the main B593 router or the WS322 extender as I struggle with all my devices connected to it?
Any suggestions?
Many thanks

Unaccounted for data usage.

Hi all, wondering what your experiences with data usage has been on this device.

I have this router up and running now for two weeks and love its speed but am experiencing huge standby data usage. First I am an IT manager with 30 years’ work experience in networking and route and firewalls so I know a fair deal.

As long as the router is on there seems to be a steady trickle of traffic that I cannot account for. I am not talking about downloads or update, etc. In short if I leave the router on I use 1Gig of data per 24 hours, that’s 30Gigs a month. Only light surfing and two S# cell phones connected. NO downloads, updates or torrents. Overnight usage while the house is asleep and the only connected devices would be the two cell phone is on average 500+ Megs. This seems abnormal, I understand that apps on the phone will always use data but not 500megs per night?

I have gone so far as to deploy Wireshark to capture and inspect packets on my network, no 3rd party has “hacked” in to the wireless network and no obvious culprits stand out.

Has anyone else experienced this?

Did you come right in identifying what uses the data? I have a similar problem.

Please help. Can I use my Huawei LTE B593s-601 on my ADSL line?

No, well not directly anyway. If you have an existing ADSL modem then you can connect the two but this device has an LTE/3G modem built in, not an ADSL modem.

Thanks. What is the best ADSL VoIP wireless/4G (or 3G) router for a small office.

I have the B593s from MTN with a Telkom Mobile LTE 100gb + 100gb month-to-month contract and I live in Villieria, Pretoria.

My modem does not seem to pick up LTE even with the two Yagi antennas I placed on my roof and pointed to where Telkom's LTE antennas are located. When I insert the Telkom simcard into my phone, it picks up LTE at one point inside my house. The modem does not pick up LTE on the same spot.

Would anybody be able to give some advice on why my modem isn't picking up LTE? I have tried pretty much everything, including trying to manually search for a Telkom 4G tower (via the software on the modem) and going somewhere else (close to another tower) and plugging the modem in.

Thanks.

Hi Ozz_7 !

Some things to check :

Are you sure have a version of the B593 that is compatible with Telkom's TDD LTE system on the 2300MHz frequency band ?
Only the B593u-91 and B593s-601 will work with TDD at 2300MHz.
MTN usually supply a re-branded version of the B593u-12, which will work with 1800MHz FDD (and a few other non-SA bands) only. These are compatible with LTE from MTN, Vodacom, Neotel and now, iBurst.
See the version descriptions in the OP for background.

  1. For the same reason as given above, are you sure the outdoor external antennas are specified to operate in the the 2300MHz band ? If your antennas are truly Yagis (more likely to be log-periodics) then they will only work optimally in specific frequency bands.
  2. Have you verified that the outdoor external antennas are properly detected and used when they are connected ? The B593s-601 has a setting to force them to be used, but other B593 variants rely on a detection method that only works with antennas that have specific characteristics.
  3. Are you really (really) sure your outdoor external antennas are pointing at a Telkom LTE-enabled base station ? The antennas are most likely highly directional and will actually make things worse if pointed the wrong way. If you haven't already done so, take a drive to the station you're pointing at and make sure it's got Telkom/8ta LTE equipment on it.
  4. Have you tried switching to the modem's internal patch antennas and looking for Telkom 4G/LTE signal at the point where your phone picks it up ? (sounds like you have)

If your phone picks up Telkom LTE at a certain spot, then you should at least get some signal with the modem's internal patch antennas at the same spot.
From the symptoms I would say it's likely you have an incompatible modem (I do see that you called it an 's', though).
If you do a manual network search on the modem, are you able to "see" 4G/LTE services from MTN, Vodacom etc ?

Verify the modem version and come back to us ?

Hi JCheek,

Thank you for the speedy reply!

I have a B593s-22.

  1. The two outdoor antennas I purchased are: http://www.otto.co.za/products/antennas/gsm-3g-4g-lte/lte-3g-4g-gsm-yagi-antenna-15db-with-bracket-and-7-meter-cable/
  2. The modem has been set to use external antennas. I can confirm that they work; when I plug them out the signal drops and the red light flashes on the modem.
  3. The antennas are pointing to where Telkom's website states the towers are located. I have direct LOS to a tower about 3 Km away. I even spent one afternoon slightly shifting the two antennas 360 degrees and manually searching after every shift.
  4. I did use the modem on the same locations within my house where my phone picks up an LTE signal without any luck. When doing a manual search I pick up every other service provider's 4G towers along with a 65514 4G (not sure whose tower this is). A manual search on my phone detects a Telkom Mobile 4G tower.

Thanks again :-)
